About this listen

Sometimes, owning a bookstore can be murder.

When Nora Jones inherits a dusty old bookshop from her estranged uncle, she moves to St. Augustine to tie up loose ends and maybe learn a bit about the man she never knew.

Only what first appeared to be a heart attack turns out to be murder, and there’s no shortage of suspects. The detective assigned to the case might be handsome and charming, but Nora’s convinced he’s chasing down the wrong lead.

With her newly inherited Greyhound named Margo and a quirky band of friends in tow, Nora decides to track down the killer. She finds herself in a race to solve the murder before she becomes the next body in the books.

Body in the Books is the first installment of the Nora Jones lighthearted mystery series. Fans of Stephanie Plum, Nancy Drew, or Scooby Doo won’t want to miss this humorous whodunit novella.

Scooby Doo gang back in action

You just have to love a book where the characters can each play a part in Scooby-doo mystery, they even have a frightened dog to play Scooby. This book was a lot of fun and definitely took the listener on a Scooby Doo type of mystery and I just loved it. Don't get me wrong it's not a child's cartoon and the mystery is a murder (be it a cosy mystery) it's more a reference to some of the personality or mannerisms of the great characters. Which are as you can tell a lot of fun and slightly quirky but I think that is what is going to have the reader or listener returning again and again to both the book and the series. Nora is a good main character and like the rest is very likeable and caring. The mystery was good with a few twist to keep you guessing. I worked out the killer and why just before Nora did. I can't wait for the next book and it is definitely on my to be read list.
Nora inherits money, a bookshop, a house and a greyhound from an uncle she never met. Leaving the past and the memories that haunt her far behind, she decided its time to get to know her uncle or at least why he left everything to her, a strange. It seems her uncle did more than rescue greyhounds and people in need, as the shop is empty of customers. Except the detective who is there to tell her, her uncle didn't die from a heart attack, he was poisoned. The detective thinks his ties to the mob is what got him killed but Nora isn't so sure when the Boss claims they were friends. Can getting to know her uncle through his friends and finding out where his money came from lead her to finding his killer?
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job of bringing the characters to life.
