Worth a listen

3.5 Stars

This synopsis grabbed me. I was hooked at the first paragraph. The story is one that is hard to listen to, your child is getting bullied and what the hell do you do?

The mother Laura seemed a little odd at times, and went completely over the top to the point I nearly stopped reading as I can't be coping with that kind of frustrating drama, but i did get over myself and put it down to her being just one of those people lol, she didn't stop being one of those people, but you have to remember that this is fiction and hell, that is what I am reading for.

A storyline and decisions that make you think..

Breathtaking

I was gripped from the beginning to the end. I found that I was on the edge of my seat in some parts. Sympathetic in others. Wonderfully written and narrated. Highly recommended.

Unsure if I like this book or not

I felt really uncomfortable listening to Bone by Bone.
I wanted the main character to do what I consider the right thing, and go to the police at the start of the issues.
Nevertheless I stayed with it and ultimately feel that is a few hours of my life I won't get back.
Saving grace is the excellent narration.

Far fetched story and very unconvincing.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The vocabulary of the 9 year old was too old for a child. The characters overall did not come across as convincing and were shallow.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Quite ridiculous and silly that things would go that far.

Could you see Bone by Bone being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

As I said above, the characters and situations were very shallow and black and white. I especially found the father of the bully overdrawn and we never really found out why he behaved like he did.

Disturbing!

I didn't enjoy this book with its account of child bullying but some aspects were intriguing. There are various complex relationships unpicked well throughout the book. The child's voice and thoughts were at times too old for the age she was which grated a little. Well delivered by narrator. Not one I would recommend highly.

Great start, pretty compelling throughout

Terrific start to the novel and pretty compelling throughout. Slightly disappointing ending without any surprises. Narrator's accent jarred, with Americanised pronunciations on some words, although I actually really liked her voice. She didn't seem to make much effort in creating distinct character's voices either.

Good storyline

I wasn’t sure about the narrator at first but she grew in me.
I enjoyed the twists and turns and at one time even suspected the mother for the occurrences.
