‘An impressive start in an exciting new series’ The Sun
‘Authentic and atmospheric’ Adele Parks, Platinum
‘Packed with authenticity’ Mail Online

Evidence never lies… But people do.

CSI Ally Dymond’s commitment to justice has cost her a place on the major investigations team. After exposing corruption in the ranks, she’s stuck working petty crimes on the sleepy North Devon coast.

Then the body of nineteen-year-old Janie Warren turns up in the seaside town of Bidecombe, and Ally’s expert skills are suddenly back in demand.

But when the evidence she discovers contradicts the lead detective’s theory, nobody wants to listen to the CSI who landed their colleagues in prison.

Time is running out to catch a killer no one is looking for – no one except Ally. What she doesn’t know is that he’s watching, from her side of the crime scene tape, waiting for the moment to strike.

‘I genuinely found it hard to put down. The writing is beautifully paced and the double viewpoint creates great tension.’ Alex Gray

'Fiendishly clever plotting. I was hooked from start to finish’ Sarah Stovell, author of Other Parents

Enjoyable story

New author for me. Wanted to see how it ended but found the constant references to Ally should be with her daughter and repetitive struggles with DI Holt frustrating - we got the picture 1st or 2nd time round, no need to labour the point. Basic story was good, although came to a rather hurried conclusion. Will probably listen to the 2nd book and see how that goes - but not just yet.

Decent twisty plot but seriously frustrating

This is a well-plotted, decently well written crime story following a CSI officer and a serial killer in broadly alternating chapters. It's pretty gripping and I did want to see how it panned out: the problem is I found it almost unbearable to listen to. Our CSI heroine is disbelieved and distrusted by the good people, and outwitted and humiliated by the bad people, for a good eleven hours or so of listening time; meanwhile the sections from the killer's point of view (while admirably not graphically violent) are predictably unpleasant listening. We get the ending we hoped for very suddenly and a little out of nowhere, which doesn't quite make up for the teeth-grindingly frustrating majority of the book.

Annoying characters

Really tried with this, but the Liverpudlian was so irritating I returned the book. So many better books available on the plus catalogue.
