About this listen

Etwas, das töten will.©2015 "The Grownup" (amerikanische Originalausgabe): Gillian Flynn / Broadway Books, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House, New York. The story is compelling at first, but goes from fresh to predictable (not to mention 'ridiculous') rather quickly, once it passes the half-way mark. If you expect something on the level of 'Gone Girl', I'm afraid you will be disappointed.

Brilliant character sketch of the protagonist at the beginning, though. Maybe Flynn lost interest half way through? To think that the print version won a prestigious award (which is did), makes you wonder whether that would have ever happened ... had the author not been Gillian Flynn.

Two stars may seem harsh, but a story that is only ever really entertaining up to the middle, simply isn't worth more than that. Something even a stellar performance can't change.

Conclusion: disappointing

Brilliant beginning - disappointing middle and end
