Summary
Two small children - playing a game called 'Witch-Hunter' - place a curse on a young woman eating lunch in a church courtyard. An hour later the woman is found dead. Then a society photographer is stabbed to death in a nearby park and suddenly a link emerges between the two cases. As the members of the Peculiar Crimes Unit investigate, they realise that the case might not just end in disaster - it might also get everyone killed.

A book to listen to again
The book was very well read, I could not put it down. The old detectives who should be retired gave it a sort of black comedy, brilliant. I will listen to it again.

Guilty pleasure
As usual if I have read something harrowing previously I go for another Bryant and May.
They are consistently witty cleverly written well read and a perfect antidote. Recommend you try this author too.

A cautionary tale that resonates with current politics
This is a delightful book full of clever twists and entertaining observations. Both amusing and horrifying. I enjoyed this more than earlier books in the series. The blend of facts, fantasy and psychological insights is remarkable. Well worth a read or a listen! The PCU are the iconoclastic heroes we could do with now!

Just love Bryant and May!
Always fun to listen to, narration excellent and engaging. I have more already in my library waiting for my next treat. there are so many interesting facts of old London threaded through the stories, really enlightening and make sense of some of my trips around historical areas such as Fleet Street and the Law courts.

As good as ever
The story is complex and interesting, and Tim Goodman brings the characters to life quite brilliantly. Very satisfying listening.

Again…
…brilliantly clever, funny, entertaining and, at some points, edge of seat exciting. Long may these old codgers flourish!

Enjoyed this book.
Really enjoyed this book. This is the first Bryant and May book I have read and I will buy more.
I liked the humour, the conclusion at the end (and the journey getting there), the plot, just everything. Lot's of events happen in the book, and it doesn't get boring.
