About this listen

In this spellbinding first dramatized audiobook in #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews’ urban fantasy Hidden Legacy series, private detective Nevada Baylor navigates her way through an alternate world where dynasties, built on inherited wealth and magic, guide the course of humanity.

Nevada Baylor runs a small-time detective agency in Houston, Texas, busting scammers, exposing cheaters, and dealing with petty criminals. She’s very good at her job–helped by a magical ability to sense when someone tells the truth or lies. But when she’s forced into accepting a case to find a radical pyrotechnic who can conjure heat and fire at will, Nevada knows she’s out of her league. To bring him to justice, she’ll have to join forces with someone who wields an even more dangerous power.

Connor “Mad” Rogan is a former combat mage, a telekinetic singularly responsible for mass destruction in war-torn countries, and a member of one of the most powerful magic families in the world. His nephew has been kidnapped by the fugitive pyromaniac, and Nevada is his best chance at finding them both. But unlike Nevada, Connor could care less about societal law and order, and has no qualms about extinguishing his family’s enemy.

Bound by their mission, Nevada and Connor clash over their tactics and moral beliefs, even as things undeniably heat up between them. But the man they’re chasing is involved in a darker conspiracy that threatens to destroy the city–and destabilize the balance of power the elite magical families use to influence every nation on Earth.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

I have all of Illona Andrews books on Kindle and many of the Audible versions, so I'm a big fan. Unfortunately, the narrator for Mad Rogan ruined this for me. He was bordering on a comical Clint Eastwood in a Western and his voice was deep but high pitched at the same time, it was very distracting. I also didn't like his accent. I'm not American so I can't say what accent it was but it was unpleasant to the ears. Not what I expected for one of the most powerful Primes in this fictional universe. I won't be purchasing the next in the series.

Not the best narrators

The book itself is great. But the Graphic Audio version is a little disappointing. The narrators chosen for the male parts and some of the side characters didn't work very well.
I switched from the original audio to the Graphic version because the book was so good, and I found the "Kate Daniels" audio version was great and made even better by the dramatized Graphic version, I expected the same for "Burn for Me".

So to clarify, the book is great, world build is complex and interesting, same with the characters. There's heat (no smex), action, kidnapping, guns, magic and friend family working banter.

For the Dramatized audiobook, 3 stars

**********

The book is great, world build is complex and interesting, same with the characters.

The research put into this shows and adds. I have no idea what type of guns are what, or the specs of cars. But the characters knowing somehow makes them deeper and the world more in some way.
The romance side is slow burn, and fun to watch the struggle. Because there's heat, a lot of heat in Neveda's, our FMC, inner monologue and the actions between the MMC Rogan, but no smex.
There is action, kidnapping, guns, magic, family with great character (grandma is hilarious) and banter.

Please note, I originally listened to the normal audiobook and it was so good I switched to the Graphic Audiobook (Dramatized), it was a mistake because the actors did not do the characters justice. Thankfully the book is so good I still enjoyed it. But the Graphic audio version I will say is 3 stars. The orginal audio and the book, 4.5 stars.

Great book, Graphic Audio version not so good.

I really enjoyed Burn for Me when I first read the book way back when, and I have been a serial listener to the original audiobooks of the series for many years, so I was curious to see how the GraphicAudio version would compare - and I can tell you, that it ended up being an incredible listen.

The full cast and sound design add a lot of depth to the story. The voice acting is really well done, and the main characters have so much more life to them, both in personality and emotion. Overall, it feels more immersive, and it was a joy to re-listen to a story I've loved for years and feel like I was listening to something new.

If you liked the book or the standard audiobook, this version is DEFINITELY worth checking out. Fingers crossed the rest of the Hidden Legacy series gets the same GraphicAudio treatment soon because I’ll be first in line!
