I enjoyed listening to this story although it was not what i expected after reading the blurb. T,he happenings within were entertaining, the characters engaging, the setting interesting, the narration superb but unfortunately i dont know what the point if it all was.

It didn't feel like a story, just a guy going on about what he did. whilst he wasn't getting killed somewhere else. It seemed that a good chunk of the story - what was actually going on in this world - was missing and that's where the action was.

I don't want to give a bad review, I enjoyed the book, it just left me feeling a bit underwhelmed and wondering if my time would have been better spent on something else.

I'm not sure what happened there....

This story has left me dissatisfied and asking lots of questions. I expect the answers are in there somewhere but I would need to write them down and listen again and probably again.
Maybe it’s my age
I would just get used to a situation and characters and suddenly I’m in another place and time and series of events.
I can see that they interlink because of the main character but not in a satisfying way.
Right and wrong immorality and insanity and a bloodthirsty element sprinkled about liberally also confused.
I won’t bother listening again.
Just not for me this one.

I find Adrian Tchaikovsky the go to author for a good read. initially, I wasn't too sure about the narrator, but after the first half hour, I realised how good he really was. if you like future dystopian type stories then this is definitely a must read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beautiful and truly poetic. Tchaikovsky did it again. Describes a world in the very distant future, a world without hope where everything is coming to get you.
P.S. The narrator brought it all to life! He was a one man army when it comes to range!

I loved this story, very unusual and imaginative. The narration fits the main character perfectly. Lots of interesting characters and concepts. Also a lot of humour, I often found myself laughing despite the setting of the story. I will most likely be listening again.

Fantasy isn’t my usual genre but I gave this a try as I loved Children of Time. I felt it sagged a touch in places and I was less interested in the ‘action’ scenes than the characterisation or broader narrative. But they’re minor quibbles really as any 20 hour book you finish in three days has to be engaging!

I was initially unsure after listening to the sample as I found the narrator a little grating... but of course that was the point! He actually did an incredible job with all the various characters and really brought the story alive. Very few others could have done such a great job with the material.

Enjoyable story with some great ideas and concepts, and characters felt quite well developed. Also some really thrilling descriptions of certain scenes in particular that paint a vivid picture, sometimes of quite horrifying sights! However, as with other books by Adrian Tchaikovsky the final act felt a bit anticlimactic and a lot of interesting plot points never got developed or went anywhere. Would still recommend to anyone that finds the premise interesting.
