A great introduction to the thoroughly decent bloke that is Jackson Brodie. Kate Atkinson is a genius at creating complex and believable characters. Sometimes laugh out loud, sometimes incredibly sad, but always written with great skill. Threads of people’s lives that weave together in a great story.

Loved it, wasn’t sure if would be as good as the previous books but I was constantly rewinding to catch little bits I had missed just so I got the full story. Wasn’t keen on relationship with his son compared to his relationship with Marley in previous books, didn’t seem as genuine but a great read non the less (all the better for fantastic narration by Isaacs)!

Have binge listened to this very clever story. Poignant tales woven together with consummate skill. I’m now going to thoroughly enjoy listening to all of Kate Atkinsons books.

Brilliantly written as usual. Great use of flashbacks and reading between the lines. My third ebook by this author - definitely in my top list of authors already.
Jason Isaacs has lovely timbre to his voice and good characterisations. I just felt it was slightly rushed - my brain couldn't always keep up with his narration. Perhaps a personal thing but is reason for four stars out of five.

This is the first book written by Kate Atkinson that I have read. She writes and portrays her characters marvellously. The main character is likeable and relatable to. The humour is so welcome. All in all I loved this book and plan to read many more of Kate's novels.

Love Kate Atkinson. Another great story. I did get a bit confused towards the last third but it all pulled together. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Very Clever, Enjoyable Crime Thriller

'Case Histories' is a great story (or series of inter-connected stories) featuring the charismatic Jackson Brodie (so excellently given voice by Jason Isaacs which was perfect casting). I thoroughly enjoyed the way the various strands played out and were resolved - lots going on, as there always is in an Atkinson book. I would really liked to have given 5 stars but I couldn't because of the abridgement. It completely ruined the latter parts of the book for me... often I was left wondering who certain characters were as I didn't think I'd heard of them before (or they'd not had sufficient introduction, as they would have done in an unabridged version). I didn't purchase this book for a long time as I was hoping an unabridged version would be forthcoming but eventually gave up waiting as I really wanted to listen to the story. If any other listeners are thinking of doing that, then go ahead - it doesn't totally ruin the experience, but it does make you feel a bit frustrated.
