Summary

In a dramatic account of violence and espionage, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow exposes serial abusers and a cabal of powerful interests hell-bent on covering up the truth, at any cost.

In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood's most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

All the while, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance that could not be explained - until now. And a trail of clues revealed corruption and cover-ups from Hollywood, to Washington, and beyond.

This is the untold story of the exotic tactics of surveillance and intimidation deployed by wealthy and connected men to threaten journalists, evade accountability and silence victims of abuse - and it's the story of the women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a global movement.

Both a spy thriller and a meticulous work of investigative journalism, Catch and Kill breaks devastating new stories about the rampant abuse of power - and sheds far-reaching light on investigations that shook the culture.

Buy the book instead

Superb work from a fantastically talented, thorough and empathetic journalist but his narration became unbearable! His accents for the individuals featured was just so bad I’ve had to give up listening. There is also so many people featured I struggled to keep up so I would really recommend buying the book.

Thriller esc great narration captivating story

This is real life’s and you have to remind yourself of that as Ronan’s story of spy’s cover ups and silencing unfolds. The pros- the story and Ronan’s narration which is almost comically times (Seths English accent!) and the brave women and the depth of which their plight was explored and investigated. The cons- I’m not American and so didn’t have the knowledge of the tv/press dynamic or people discussed within those companies- I couldn’t picture the places and the names became hard to follow.
Overall a good listen if you are interested in journalism truth and Weinsteins abuse of power

tragic and uplifting

It's awful these abuses and coverups happened, and inspiring that so many people came together to stand up to it.

An interesting look into Hollywood

I found it to be very interesting but a little hard to follow because there are so many people mentioned in the book. The performance was excellent but I would recommend the physical book if you struggle to keep up with things

In a world of cover-ups, inside the story

Very good book with insights into the slime world of the sexual predators in the movie and news industry, the cover-ups, payoffs and the victims.

A bit long in places but overall very good, but excellent investigation.

Gripping from beginning to end.

I found this book through the podcast by the same name. It does not disappoint! An unbelievable account from a viewpoint that news needed to be fact checked. The wheelings and dealings in the upper echelons of the who’s who. The suppression of victims. Bravery, deception, truth, lies, humour, sadness - this account has it all. Ronan obviously can’t do wrong. Brilliantly written, excellently narrated. A must read/listen!

great

A great behind the scenes story of an explosive report and the powers that tried to stop it. Farrow's accents are a hilarious performance highlight.

Very compelling

Very well written and really grabbed hold and I couldn’t stop listening, I also liked the way he read he’s own words.

Great inside view on investigative journalism

For such a hard and tough topic the decision by the author to heavily narrate the book using accents for almost every single character, with some of them being stereotypical and not good, distracts the listener from the greatness of the story being told and lightens the mood too much for such a hard story. Still focusing on the content, the author gives a great inside perspective on the complexity of investigative journalism and how hard it is to bring these tough stories to life. The narrative is gripping and compelling.
