About this listen

Serial killer Gary Heidnik's name will live on in infamy, and his home, 3520 North Marshall Street in Philadelphia, is a house tainted with the memory of unbelievable horrors. What police found there was an incredible nightmare made real. Four young women had been held captive - some for four months - half-naked and chained. They had been tortured, starved, and repeatedly raped. But more grotesque discoveries lay in the kitchen: human limbs frozen, a torso burned to cinders, an empty pot suspiciously scorched....

This is not a story for the faint-hearted. Cellar of Horror is a shocking true account of the self-proclaimed minister with a long history of mental illness, who preyed upon the susceptible in a bizarre plan to create his own "baby factory." It is a macabre web spun around money, power, and religion, tangled with courtroom drama and lawyers' tactics, sure to send a chill into your very soul.

Not an easy listen, but truly fascinating and helpful towards my Criminology Degree. Love the Narrator too. I’ve listened to a few books he’s narrated. Brilliant voice.

Such a horrible story, how one man’s mind can think all that was normal I don’t know, I don’t think he was insane I think he was a sick individual that enjoyed inflicting pain for his own pleasure.

I also think Nicole did what she could to keep him on side & remember if it wasn’t for her then only god knows how long this could of carried on for!

Death sentence is all this man’s good for

I appreciate the way this was told, all facts presented & narrator did a brilliant job

True telling of horror and the unimaginable

What a terrible excuse for a human being.

While this is no doubt a truly awful case, I found the second half of the book quite dull - it seemed padded out, concerned with too many small facts that weren't relevant & minute details of the lawyers. I suppose its aim was to show how the process works in a case of ‘insanity', but I felt it was overly long & a bit tedious.
The narrator reminded me of a Simpson's Character, so I found it hard to take him too seriously.

As I wasn't familiar with this case, I had to look Gary Heidnik up to find out what happened to him, as the book ends in 1989 with him in prison & there's no conclusion.

Interesting but I'm glad I didn't use a credit on it.

A grim tale.

It never ceases to amaze me what one human will do.to another.
Didn't know about this case, kinda wish I didn't now.
A truly revolting specimen of a man.
