Summary

The desert planet Arrakis, called Dune, has been destroyed. Now, the Bene Gesserit, heirs to Dune's power, have colonized a green world—and are tuning it into a desert, mile by scorched mile.

Chapterhouse Dune is the last book Frank Herbert wrote before his death: A stunning climax to the epic Dune legend that will live on forever.

Nice but unfinished

It's interesting, it's not the same as the original (of course not) which feels like so long ago. Fortunately a sequel exists that does conclude the story and I for one enjoyed the further adventures of Duncan and Co as they encounter the old couple and resolve the story in a way I found quite satisfying.

Multiple voice actors

The multiple voices actors worked well. Being pedantic, consistency of the pronunciation of the word “Matre” would have been nice 😂

a great book

What made the experience of listening to Chapterhouse Dune the most enjoyable?

I found this to be as engaging as the original dune book. Really kept me enthralled the whole way through

Who was your favorite character and why?

I generally followed all the lead characters, a strong cast made it difficult to pick any single character out

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The final twist was a perk, was it all going just a bit too well

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not massively, I was hooked from beginning to end

Any additional comments?

A great listen

Clever story. Interesting ideas.

Cloning and cybernetics and the continuation of the human race.

If each cell held consciousness, you could go back to the origin of the race.

Not sure it needed three narrators, but fine.

I look forward to reading the follow on novels by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson.

Great Story, Great Performance

Story is awesome, the readers are great at their performances and bringing the story to life. It's very long, but at no point did I feel it to much. I was sad when I'd finished the "book"

Back on track

I felt the series was getting stranger and stranger but this one pulled it back on track.

patchy performance

If you are going to have a cast recording, at least get them to pronounce the different race names the same way, very distracting.

Chapter House Dune

I read this many years ago. I’m dyslexic and had a really hard time getting through it. I think I abandoned it. I read the trilogy and they became one of my all-time favorites. Anyway I’ve given up reading it’s too hard for me and when I found audible I was thrilled. I’ve listen to this and totally enjoyed it. There are several mysteries. I never got why they chose a beautiful green planet to turn into a desert and there is a Character the Rabbi who is a bit of a mystery. I played the section where I thought the character was introduced but I never figured it out. It almost seemed like it was never finished and was stitched together . I’m hoping it is an intro to the next book. Definitely worth listening to

Brilliant story...why the narrator changes though?

The actual story for Chapter House is brilliant. A close 2nd, in my opinion, behind Heretics in the 6 novels.
Was there any logic in the narrator changes throughout the audio book though? Why not just stick with Simon Vance reading the whole book?
The female narrator read every sentence with a plaintive, pleading sounding voice. It was very annoying and not suited to what she was actually reading.
I want to get to the end of the overall story so it's with trepidation now that I venture towards the absolutely terrible Hunters Of Dune. Let's see if I can get though it.

excellent

some of the narrator's had different ways of pronouncing some words commonly used in the story, found this a little jarring. but ultimately it was excellent.
