Summary

Seth Andrews wasn't an idiot during his 30 years as an evangelical Christian. He wasn't unintelligent, nor did his IQ shift when he ultimately left religion entirely. He considered himself thoughtful, moral, reasonable, and at least as smart as the average person. In other words, he wasn't an idiot. Yet strangely, he often sounded like one.

In any other context, Christians would likely smirk, scoff, or recoil at many of their "normal" beliefs and practices, reenacted Easter crucifixions, eating monthly communion "flesh", singing hymns about being washed in blood, and the embrace of a Bible containing scripture verses about golden hemorrhoids, apocalypse dragons, and human sacrifice, So what gives?

Are these notions embraced only because they're familiar? Do they make any sense? And, do they cause otherwise reasonable people to sound like idiots?

Seth Andrews admits that, for himself, the answer was a definite "yes". For everyone else? Listen to the audiobook and decide.

Engaging writer, and narrator

I shouldn’t be forced to have to write a review and give a title. Previously I was just asked to give it a star rating. Now you’re forced to do a bit more.

I think a star rating should be enough. You shouldn’t be forced to have to write an essay You just reading a damn book and that’s the end of it. Enjoy the book. I think Seth Andrews is a fantastic operator and he has a great podcast called the thinking atheist. His voice is perfect for the medium of audiobooks.

Great, freeing and enlightening!

Seth’s insight, bourne out of his 40 some years of indoctrination, and subsequent escape to reason, is a joy to behold. And an anchor for those of us who share a similar life limiting experience…
Excellent on all levels

Hilariously insightful and nostalgically reflective

Seth Andrews' “Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot” is a brilliant blend of humor, intelligence, and nostalgia. As someone who spent years in the Christian faith, I found myself chuckling and nodding in agreement throughout the entire book. Andrews masterfully captures the essence of the often absurd things said and believed in Christianity with a perfect balance of wit and wisdom.

His storytelling is both engaging and relatable. Andrews' ability to dissect his past beliefs without bitterness is refreshing and adds a layer of depth to the narrative.

Andrews' narration is spot on, bringing his stories to life in a way that is both entertaining and heartfelt. If you're looking for a book that will make you laugh, think, and reminisce about your days as a believer, this is it. Highly recommended for anyone who has ever questioned their faith or simply enjoys a good, honest look at the quirks of religion.

BRILLIANT!

I’m now a lifelong fan of Seth Andrews. A great, rational man who deserves a much wider audience and influence.

Excellent

I already have Mr Seth Andrews' other book, "Deconverted", which is excellent. This book, expands upon some of the topics a little deeper. I am grateful for the honesty and sincerity that Seth has brought in this book, facing all the "inconvenient" issues in organised religion, head on, is no easy task.

An excellent account

Seth has a true grasp on the subject and understands the troubling account of the Christian doctrine that causes so much mental anguish driven by fear. Seth draws on his own experience and sharp insight to provide solid reasoning and more than a little wry humour to bring a clear focus as to why Christianity is so flawed and promotes so much hysteria. Great work Seth keep them coming

Very refreshing

Mr Andrew's style of speech keeps this moving on at a satisfying speed. Packed with humour I found myself "nodding" at so many points along the way.
