Pubblicata per la prima volta nell'agosto del 1915 sul Giornale di Sicilia, "Colloquii coi personaggi" è una novella in cui possiamo ascoltare lo stesso Pirandello mentre dialoga con un personaggio e con il ricordo della madre defunta. Ambientata allo scoppio della Prima Guerra Mondiale, la novella presenta un'interessante riflessione sui doveri dell'intellettuale e su quelli dell'autore. Nella seconda ed ultima parte, invece, assistiamo ad un toccante momento autobiografico mentre Pirandello dialoga con un'ombra, ovvero il ricordo della madre morta.
