A murder on stage. A cast full of suspects. Can dresser to the stars and true crime obsessive Jayne unravel the mystery?

It is opening night at the London Palladium, and tensions are running high amongst the feuding cast of "Leopard Spots." Amongst them are an ageing lothario, a foul-mouthed national treasure, and a comedian-turned actor all vying for the spotlight.

When an on-stage accident forces an unexpected intermission, it is clear only to dresser to the stars Jayne that the backstage drama has turned deadly. Can she step out of the wings and identify the killer before it is too late? Or will murder make an encore...

Absolutely wonderful, I would give it a million stars if I could, great story, funny characters and made even more fabulous with Julian himself a character

Laugh out loud

The performance was excellent. Like listening to a radio play. Listened to it in a couple of days.

Really good plot which was woven expertly into the world of the theatre (and Julian Clary). Narration was excellent and I loved the additional asides.

Brilliant

It was voiced well and a good gentle subversion of the genre. It was witty and fun to listen to and came nicely to a conclusion

Funny and enjoyable

The overall structure and format was great especially with the "fun fact" interjections and comments from Julian himself. The characters were good ( if a little predictable) as were their narrators. My issue is with the overall plot it was less difficult to solve than a "famous five" mystery, totally predictable with virtually no suspense or "I didn't see that coming" moments. This sadly let down what was a very good idea well executed. Perhaps Julian should read one of Richard Osmans "Thursday murder club" books before embarking on his next crime novel!

I enjoyed this but!!

Loved all of Julian's prior novels and once I got used to the format of this one I loved it too. BUT...beware, the voice actor who plays the character of Simon and Robin (amongst others) is horrendously bad. He pronounces Leopard Spots (the name of the play in the book) leo-pold spots. It grates so hard that I had to fast forward at some points when he was speaking. All the other narrators pronounce it correctly as lep-ard spots, so it seems whoever reviews these audio books for continuity thought it wouldn't be picked up by listeners and it would do. Yes it was. And yes it was bloom' irritating especially as that voice actor narratated key characters. And no it won't just do. Hence the low rating for the performance as, sadly, he brings the whole cast down.

Once you get used to the format it's a good story...

Julien' dulcet tones, superb writing, wry wit, and some genuine laugh out laugh moments, all made for a charming listen. Highly recommend.

what's not to love‽

Great listen. You follow the story as if Julian is relaying it to you. Great story, you get involved with the people and it’s all wrapped up neatly. Looking forward to book 2

I loved the story telling style and real characters
