About this listen

In this new novel by the #1 New York Times best-selling author Mary Higgins Clark, the reigning "Queen of Suspense", a dark secret from a family's past threatens the lives of two sisters, Kate and Hannah Connelly.

When the family-owned furniture firm, including the mansion where priceless antiques are kept, explodes into flames in the middle of the night, Kate must escape to save her life. But the suspicious circumstances point to her involvement. Was the explosion set deliberately? Why was Kate, a gorgeous CPA for one of the biggest accounting firms in the country, on the premises at that hour? And why was Gus, a retired and trusted employee, with her? Now Gus is dead and Kate lies in the hospital gravely injured. Hannah, Kate's sister and a rising fashion designer, must discover what drew them there and what dangerous secrets lies hidden in the ashes.

Step by step, in a novel of dazzling suspense and excitement, Mary Higgins Clark once again demonstrates the mastery of her craft that has made her books international best sellers for years. Daddy's Gone A Hunting presents the listener with a perplexing mystery and a fascinating cast of characters - one of whom may just be a ruthless killer.

No surprises but if you're a MHC fan you'll love

Would you listen to Daddy's Gone A Hunting again? Why?

Maybe in a few years once I had completely forgotten the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I love MHC books - they're like comfort reading (listening) for me. Her books are very formulaic which is one of the things that irritate me about other authors sometimes but with MHC that is preceicely what I love about her - you know exactly what you're getting: young woman (usually in her 30's), always respectable and has a good job and is independent, gets in the middle of a plot somehow and we follow her to see if she survives it / manages to get her way out of trouble. Sounds boring but it's really not. There is something so comforting yet exciting about her books and I can never wait for the next one to come out.

What about Jan Maxwell’s performance did you like?

I love Jan Maxwell's performances in MHC books - she has narrated most of them I think and it is a voice I have come to recognise and associate with them. She is a great narrator.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope, but it did make me root for the main characters.

Any additional comments?

If you haven't tried a MHC book yet, give this one a go - you might just want to listen to them all after.
