About this listen
Level Zero Heroes, Michael Golembesky's best-selling account of Marine Special Operations Team 8222 in Bala Murghab, Afghanistan, was just the beginning for these now battle-hardened special operations warriors.
The unforgiving Afghan winter settled upon the 22 men of Marine Special Operations Team 8222, call sign Dagger 22, in the remote and hostile river valley of Bala Murghab, Afghanistan. The Taliban fighters in the region would have liked nothing more than to once again go dormant and rest until the new spring fighting season began. No chance of that - this winter would be different.
Along with Afghan and International Security Forces (NATO), the marines of Dagger 22 continued their fight throughout the harsh winter to shape the battlefield before the Afghan ground began to thaw. From one firefight to the next, the noose began to tighten around the village of Daneh Pasab and the Taliban command cell operating there. On April 6, 2010, a ground force consisting of US Army Special Forces, Afghan commandos, and Marine Corps special operations conducted a night assault to destroy the heavily entrenched Taliban force, breaking their grip on the valley and stopping the spring offensive before it even began.
But nothing in Bala Murghab comes easily, and combat operations wear on the operators of Dagger 22 as they lean on each other once again in order to complete their mission in one of the most brutal environments on earth.

Great story
Great account of a tough tour but spoilt by awful narrator. I almost deleted the book because of his irritating stage whisper voice.

Good story- awful narration
The story is well written and does give an insight to the experiences however the narrator seems intent on providing a sense of tension by affecting a 1950s cowboy whisper, it doesn’t add anything and made what would have been an enjoyable listen seem slightly contrived and played for effect. A shame but think the hard copy would have been a better purchase.

Good Listen - Eventually
Really struggled with the narrator for the first 3rd of the book. Kept over emphasising final words in sentences. Suspect he was trying to add atmosphere but nearly put me off enough to stop listenin. Thankfully he improves until he tries the female voice. Did take away from what would have been a much better story and listen

One of the best accounts of afghanistan
'ski writes a gritty tale in great detail that honours the men he served with and shows his patriotism 100%. it's soul destroying to hear of the lives lost both UK and American for what seems like a pointless war. still, it's what keeps the American war machine and industry going, much to the future generations lack of understanding and unfortunate socialist views, it begs pause for thought what future and influence does the USA hold as a world superppwer‽

An Interesting Account
An enjoyable book overall but the narrator for me was a bit too over the top with his style of describing the combat scenarios. It made it a bit difficult to absorb what the author intended but all personal observations are subjective and what I found annoying others might not.

Seriously?
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can not think of anyone
Has Dagger 22 put you off other books in this genre?
No not really.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Tiredness.
Any additional comments?
The story is simply about a soldier and his experiences, which I'm sure are true and harsh. However the story told is bloated, repetitive and the narrators huge effort to make the book sound interesting made it sound like a never ending hammy intro to a B movie. Try the sample before purchasing. This is no reflection at all about the solder, but I am saddened how his effort to share his experiences have been let down by the poor content and narrator.
