About this listen
RITA Award-winning author Kresley Cole continues her bestselling Immortals After Dark series with this electrifying tale of a ruthless demon mercenary and the lovely young halfling who enchants him.
A seductive beauty he can never have, yet can't resist....
Cadeon Woede will stop at nothing to atone for the one wrong that will haunt him forever. But once he secures the key to his redemption, the halfling Holly Ashwin, Cade finds that the woman he thought he could use for his own ends and then forget haunts him as much as his past.
A tormented warrior she should fear, but can't deny....
Raised as a human, Holly never knew that some frightening legends are real until she encounters a brutal demon who inexplicably guards her like a treasure. Thrust into a sensual new world of myth and power, with him as her protector, she begins to crave the demon's wicked touch.
Surrender to dark desires....
Yet just when he earns Holly's trust, will Cade be forced to betray the only woman who can sate his wildest needs - and claim his heart?

I adore this book
This novel is a captivating read that follows two main characters, Cadeon and Holly. Cadeon is a charming yet unscrupulous mercenary who possesses a playful and cocky personality. Despite his mercenary lifestyle, he is a devoted and thoughtful individual, especially when it comes to handling Holly's disease. The way he deals with her condition is remarkable, given that he is in a complicated situation and has to make a serious decision alone. As a reader, one can't help but feel for him, given his sufferings, loss, and guilt.
Holly's character is equally fascinating. Her struggle with OCD is portrayed realistically, and her character development is impressive. Throughout the story, she undergoes a significant transformation, and the way she embraces the newly revealed aspects of her personality at the end is remarkable. Despite being in a world surrounded by dangerous creatures, she doesn't freak out much; instead, she takes control of her situation. As she delves deeper into the world of the Lore, she realizes that she wants to belong to it, and this realization adds an exciting dimension to her character.
Moreover, the latent Valkyrie thing in the story adds an exciting twist to the plot. It's intriguing to see how Holly and other characters deal with this aspect of their existence. As a reader, I found myself fascinated by the idea of being a Valkyrie. The description of the Valkyrie characteristics, such as loving jewelry, fashion, and the ability to scream, was captivating. It made me wonder if I could be one too.
Overall, this novel is a must-read, thanks to its well-crafted characters, captivating plot, and intriguing twists and turns

Great Hero
The jewel in this story was the demon Cade. He is a warm funny misogynist who is wonderfully interpreted by Petkoff.
Holly the heroine is suitably vague until she embraces her destiny.
There are more sex scenes in this book than in others and sometimes that seems to the detriment of the plot.
The Valkyries are wonderful as always but there is not enough of them.
The great plus for this audiobook is Robert Petkoff - again brilliant performance.

Great book, amazing narration
I’m so glad I read this series long ago enough to not actually remember what happens in each book! I don’t think I’d have enjoyed this one as much without Robert Petkoff’s amazing acting skills. Lines I would’ve thought were cute in print are laugh-out-loud funny when he reads them.
Kresley Cole’s writing is strong enough to have a genuinely good romance plot alongside a genuinely good sub-plot that drives the story forward. Not many romances have such interesting storylines outside the MCs’ relationship.
