About this listen
Dark Stars is a tribute to horror’s longstanding short-fiction legacy, featuring 12 terrifying original stories from today's most noteworthy authors, with a foreword by best-selling author Josh Malerman (Bird Box) and an afterword by Ramsey Campbell.
Created as an homage to the 1980 classic horror anthology, Dark Forces, edited by Kirby McCauley, this collection contains 12 original novelettes showcasing today’s top horror talent. Dark Stars features all-new stories from award-winning authors and up-and-coming voices like Stephen Graham Jones, Priya Sharma, Usman T. Malik, Caroline Kepnes, and Alma Katsu, with seasoned author John F.D. Taff at the helm. An afterword from original Dark Forces contributor Ramsey Campbell is a poignant finale to this bone-chilling collection.
Within this book, you’ll find tales of dead men walking, an insidious secret summer fling, an island harboring unspeakable power, and a dark hallway that beckons. You’ll encounter terrible monsters - both human and supernatural - and be forever changed. The stories in Dark Stars run the gamut from traditional to modern, from dark fantasy to neo-noir, from explorations of beloved horror tropes to the unknown - possibly unknowable - threats.
It’s all in here because it’s all out there, now, in horror.

Disappointing!
Could not get on with this book whatsoever. Very disappointing horror stories and was really looking forward to lots of different stories. Only 2 worth listening too for horror fans!

Not quite as "Bone Chilling" as advertised...
The stories were very well written. It felt quite literary, I enjoyed it. There were some very clever plots. Perhaps this is a personal thing, I didn't find it "Bone Chilling".
The stories were more 'about' horror; than 'being' horror, although they were well written.
There was also an issue with there being an insufficient gap in-between the stories. One story virtually starting the moment the previous one ended. A bit too close together for comfortable listening.
There was a great array of narrators, a fascinating variety of voices. A very well produced audio experience if only the stories were not crammed so close together.

I've been looking forward to this
After a long wait for this to be released, the release date was pushed back a couple of times, I was really pleased when I noticed it pop up in my library after having preordered.
So far so good.
The anthology premise was what attracted me initially, so I think ithe book lives up to expectations
The narrators are all very listenable which is not always the case with some of the many short story collections I have. Nothing over done, just well read without any distraction from the stories.
I have only listened through once, which is not enough time spent with each work to say anything other than I'm looking forward to giving it a second go this evening. A good sign in itself.
A step above the pack and so far worth the wait
I'll pop back when I have spent more time with this collection and tell you what I think, for what that's worth anyway.
