Summary

A gritty urban legal thriller you don’t want to miss! Perfect for fans of John Grisham, Robert Bailey, Michael Connelly and Robert Dugoni.

Has Charles picked the wrong side…?

London, 1969: The Kray twins, the nemeses of Charles Holborne, barrister, are finally convicted of multiple murders and sent away for the longest prison terms ever imposed by a British court. But with London in the grip of a housing crisis and unscrupulous landlords hiking rents, there are new ruthless enforcers terrorizing destitute East Enders. When a tenant dies during a violent altercation with bailiffs, Charles is instructed to represent the businessmen charged with conspiracy to murder.

There is motive, an eyewitness, and a confession–seemingly an open and shut case. But Charles suspects his clients are pawns in a much more dangerous game being played by shadowy Establishment figures. But are his instincts wrong this time? Is he being manipulated into defending a guilty man? And as dark secrets are revealed, will he have to choose between moral integrity and professional success?

DEATH, ADJOURNED is the ninth crime novel in an exciting historical series, the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers—gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.

Brilliantly written Web of Intrigue

Another fantastic read from Simon Michael. A courtroom thriller set in the late 1960's cleverly interwoven with stories based on real characters and events that give the whole book an aura of truth. The entire series is pure genius, fiction writing at it's best, and highly recommended. The narrator could not be faulted, across the series he has proved to be adept at many regional accents and only enhances the books with his performance.

Maturing Charles is still as fascinating

So looked forward to this to see how Charles' story would develop now the Krays are in prison, and was not disappointed. I love the way Charles' personal and working lives intertwine, and the ongoing saga of Millie and Harry is both poignant and entertaining. Charles is still fighting injustice, prejudice and corruption and his undoubted legal sharpness shines through. I do hope that this isn't the end of the series! My only criticism - where was Sean? We had a brief glimpse of Irena but not enough of the lovely Irish 'tec'. Superbly narrated by Colin Mace - 10 stars wouldn't be exaggerating for his reading. Thank you Simon for a wonderful character and storyline in this series.

Another brilliant legal mystery

Thank goodness Charles Holbourne is back; such an engaging character. The blend of legal drama and 20th century history is riveting and creates the compelling story. You can start anywhere in the saga but once you read The Brief, you won't be able to stop.
And Colin Mace's portrayal of all the characters brings it all to life. Thank you both. Roll on number 10. We know the Krays are still watching.

I download and listen to a lot of crime fiction (I have 890 Audible books). Take it from me this is a masterful book. like all in the series is brilliantly read. And the story has wonderful twists and turns. Just as you think all is lost Charlie comes up with the goods. But the utter genius is how he does it! Do yourself a favour and download this absolut Diamond book!

Just gets better and better!

I’ve listened to all of the Charles Holbourne series and just love them. The characters continue to develop and being a child of the sixties it is fascinating to revisit those incredible times and be reminded of various sometimes terrifying events.
I think Eddie Flynn and the Lincoln Lawyer have a serious rival. Thank you Simon, can’t wait for the next one!
Sorry can’t believe I forgot this on first review. The narrator,Colin Mace, is outstanding and definitely adds to the experience. Great team work!

Another fab Simon Michael story

He is such a good author. I love this series and nothing tops it, always so cleverly put together. Just need more of it now as it’s addictive. The narrator also contributes to the success of the series, he does such a great job.

...Strength to Strength

This is the latest in the Charles Holborne series and is up to the usual high standard .
it's the late 1960s by now and another topical issue takes Charles and his ex pupil Peter Bateman to the Old Bailey to defend a dysfunctional family.
Colin Mace has voiced all of the books so far and is just superb
