In a last-ditch attempt to save his son, Whitby's father, arch-colonialist, Charles Whitby, forces a new investigation into the killing.
The investigation leads Inspector Persis Wadia of the Bombay Police to the old colonial capital of Calcutta, where, with the help of Scotland Yard criminalist Archie Blackfinch, she uncovers a possible link to a second case, the brutal murder of an African-American G.I. during the Calcutta Killings of 1946.
How are the cases connected? If Whitby didn't murder Mazumdar, then who did? And why?

A Very Entertaining Mystery!
Great presentation by the reader of another excellent novel from this author! Fast moving with many twists and turns! Hope there’s more to come!

Love the characters
Yet another great story with likeable, gutsy Persis. Fascinating way to learn the history of post Colonial India and crazy way of life in India.

fascinating tale with many twists
another wonderful Persus story. great historic context and descriptions of locations and characters. the twisting tale we have come to expect circling around Persis. cannot wait for the next book. beautifully read as well.

Wonderful series

Very enjoyable, pity about the language
I’ve read all the previous novels in this series, I immensely enjoy them. This new instalment is ingeniously plotted and well-paced. Just one minor niggle, Ms Khan’s figurative language is convoluted, and some of her similes are strangulated and sounded like a Raymond Chandler novel produced by AI. If she can resist or limit the Philip Marlowe metaphors, the writing would be stronger

Very enjoyable
I love Vaseem Khan’s stories. I wish the relationship with either Darius or Blackfinch came to something rather than always staying on the edge.
The twist and turns of the story keep you interested.

Persis against crime again
Excellent story with inspector Persis on the trail of the criminals again. Beautifully narrated. Very descriptive of the emotions the characters experience and evocative of a fascinating country. Very slightly marred by poor editing in places but you don’t appear to miss anything.
