About this listen
You don't have to live overwhelmed by stuff - you can get rid of clutter for good! Decluttering expert Dana White identifies the emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter and provides workable solutions to break through and make progress.
While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.
In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, decluttering expert and author Dana White identifies the mindsets and emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter. In her signature humorous approach, she provides workable solutions to break through these struggles and get clutter out - for good!
Not only does Dana provide strategies, but she dives deep into how to implement them, no matter the listener's clutter level or emotional resistance to decluttering. She helps identify procrasticlutter - the stuff that will get done eventually so it doesn't seem urgent - as well as how to make progress when there's no time to declutter.
In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, Dana’s chapters cover:
- Why you need this book (You know why)
- Your unique home
- Decluttering in the midst of real life
- Change your mind, change your home
- Breaking through your decluttering delusions
- Working it out room by room
- Helping others declutter
As long as we're living and breathing, new clutter will appear. The good news is that by following Dana’s advice, decluttering will get easier, become more natural, and require significantly fewer hours, less emotional bandwidth, and little to no sweat to keep going.

Love this book! No nonsense, no frills, just decluttering in a non-emotional way. Perfect for me and I am seeing results for the first time in decades!

I just love this book!
I’ve listened to her podcast, A Slob Comes Clean, for years and I love it! I’ve been lacking motivation and have been feeling overwhelmed when it comes to many things (a consequence of depression and cptsd). Listening to Dana makes me feel less alone, and because I relate so much to what she’s saying, it makes it easier for me to believe that I can do it too! I’ve been wanting to get her books for a long time and finally did. This book is definitely worth a listen (or ten), especially if you’re not a natural declutterer. Inspiring and helpful!

Pragmatic and down to earth in an inspiring way
This book was recommended to me by a friend and I’ve found the concepts really helpful and practical to put into practice already, especially in the ‘visible’ spaces of my house! Thank you Dana!

Informative & Fun
I bought this after listening to her podcasts for a few months - it does not disappoint and I have been using her strategies (along with a few others) and I am making great progress - the container concept is a game changer!

Good book
Great content but the chapters aren’t named or split properly in the recording. It makes it hard to reference or go back to (and this book you really do need to go back to).

Fantastic advise for all
loved listening to this book. I am in the midst of a major DIY project at home, after major issues was revealed in the living area of an elderly relative, who has recently moved out of our home and into a nursing home. So with all the upheaval, dust and mess mixed in with the relatives belongings, some gone and some we have to store, I have been living in chaos the last 3 months, which, i pray will be resolved soon, as the issues needs external intervention.
So I purchased this title for help - with living in this mess, and the accumulation of Christmas, which recently passed.
Read by the author Dana, I have found it has given me hope to function as a sane person, and to clearly follow the easy steps to tackle what I have now and what will come after everything has been resolved, fixed, repairs, decorated and moved back into the spaces and storageof the relatives belongins, with clear clarity and manageable expectations.
I loved the first hand experiences, all scenarios, all levels of neurodiversity and the gentle, hand holding and strong encouragement, I found the book great, and would highly recommend to anyone, no matter how you perceive your homes clutter. Thank-you Dana.

Fun to listen to, but more importantly it works!
Read by the author in a very listenable, funny but most importantly helpful voice of experience, this contains concepts that really work to help you start improvement by your life - painlessly!
Having acquired a goodly stash of 'decluttering' books, some by famous and widely-acclaimed authors, I was beginning to wonder if I was a hopeless case. Having listened to Dana's simple but profound insights and gentle logic based rules I can now see that the reason the other books failed was that they were too complex, required massively ambitious projects I could never finish - in some cases not even really start - required imagination and visualisation skills I don't have and space to sort stuff out in, which I also don't have. In fact the other books made the problem worse, not better because I'd invariably get stuck half-day through Dana's system is so simple there is no way to get stuck and one simple rule that absolutely stops you churning, creating new piles or making a bigger mess while you declutter.
Those other books are on their way (finally) out of the door and I have stopped feeling like failure. I haven't finished, in fact I have only just started but already there is so much difference in my life and so much more space in my rooms. They are becoming places to live in, and thrive rather than dread spaces filled with misery-making boxes, clutter and junk.
I cannot recommend this highly enough. If you need your life back from the stuff that's taking (or has taken) it over - start here!
