About this listen

Denzil Meyrick, ex-police officer and celebrated author of the best-selling DCI Daley series, joins us to discuss the release of his new and highly anticipated sixth instalment, entitled The Relentless Tide: A DCI Daley Thriller.

Returning to the wonderfully dark world of Kinloch, the audiobook opens with the discovery of three female corpses which lead to the arrival of the Scottish Police’s Cold Case Unit and a race against time for Detective Daley.

In this interview, we talk to Denzil about his protagonist, the evolution of the series and how he began writing.

Having now listened to my first Audible Session, I found it to be a worthwhile insight into the processes of an author whose novels have only one failing - I simply cannot turn them off which not only gets in the way of my own workbbut leaves me waiting impatiently for a follow up.

Very interesting concept

Great to hear Denzil Meyrick talk about his books and characters. I'm delighted to hear he will keep writing his DCI Daley books for as long as people want to buy them. I feel like I know and love Kinloch and the usual characters. The books have got better and better. I love the combination of thriller, crime, mystery and comedy. I love the authentic scottish dialect and the capture of life in a place where everyone knows everyone's business. I've learnt a few new expressions - like 'coupon' which means something completely different in English! We asked a scottish relative if he came across that word often and his reply was 'oh hell yes'. His example could have come straight out of the mouth of Brian Scott - 'put a smile on yer coupon wummin'!! Anyhow, keep them coming Mr Meyrick. I've read a lot of crime and thriller books set in Scotland and love most of them but Denzil Meyrick's are my absolute favourites.

One of my absolute favourite authors
