Draußen im Walde stand ein niedlicher, kleiner Tannenbaum; er hatte einen guten Platz, Sonne konnte er bekommen, Luft war genug da, und ringsumher wuchsen viel größere Kameraden, sowohl Tannen als Fichten. Aber dem kleinen Tannenbaum schien nichts so wichtig wie das Wachsen; er achtete nicht der warmen Sonne und der frischen Luft, er kümmerte sich nicht um die Bauernkinder, die da gingen und plauderten, wenn sie herausgekommen waren, um Erdbeeren und Himbeeren zu sammeln.
