Summary

An Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller.

From Dean Koontz, the master of suspense, comes an epic thriller about a terrifying killer and the singular compassion it will take to defeat him.

“Canine or human, it is hard to find a more lovable character in fiction than Kipp. Devoted has every mark of a classic.” - Associated Press

Woody Bookman hasn’t spoken a word in his eleven years of life. Not when his father died in a freak accident. Not when his mother, Megan, tells him she loves him. For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. But Woody believes a monstrous evil was behind his father’s death and now threatens him and his mother. And he’s not alone in his thoughts. An ally unknown to him is listening.

A uniquely gifted dog with a heart as golden as his breed, Kipp is devoted beyond reason to people. When he hears the boy who communicates like he does, without speaking, Kipp knows he needs to find him before it’s too late.

Woody’s fearful suspicions are taking shape. A man driven by a malicious evil has set a depraved plan into motion. And he’s coming after Woody and his mother. The reasons are primal. His powers are growing. And he’s not alone. Only a force greater than evil can stop what’s coming next.

Critic reviews

"Readers who were wondering how Koontz could possibly follow up his remarkable Jane Hawk series can breathe a sigh of relief. His new novel finds him still at the top of his game…Scary, sickening (in that good way), and touching, this is a novel that will delight both the author's legion of fans and those who finally decide it's time to find out what this guy Koontz is all about." Booklist (starred review)

"Canine or human, it is hard to find a more lovable character in fiction than Kipp. Devoted has every mark of a classic." —Associated Press

"A warm, deeply engrossing tale…Not to be missed." Providence Journal

A doggy tale

Very much like his earlier book The Watchers. A dog with a human mind and a monster. A boy with autism and his mother are attacked by an old beau (now turning into a monster) of the mother. The dog who when his mistress died left to find a boy. An ex Navy seal and te companion of the dogs owner, all come together to combat four killers who had been sent to kill the mother and boy because the boy had infiltrated a site on the dark web where murderers where for hire when he tried to find who had killed his father. Brilliantly read by Edwardo Ballerini.

classic Koontz

A familiar story for Koontz fans. A widow and her gifted son are up against the powerful bad guys (genetically engineered ). Special K9s, and hero's come to the fore. whats not to love?

I was gripped!

Great characters, interesting storyline, some scares, some laughs. It kept me interested so much that I looked forward to getting back to it.

An unusually comfortable read by Dean Koontz

Readers of this author will recognise a familiar pattern of science fiction premise leading to a chase and good winning out in the end. In this case the backstory is experimentation leading to super-intelligent dogs, and gene splicing leading to a devolving human being. Koontz's love of all things canine is wonderfully present in this novel, which rolls comfortably, but nevertheless thrillingly to a satisfying conclusion.

starts well

initially intriguing with good narration but the middle became more like filler for me and the ending was unsatisfactory and rushed. the main two interesting points of the book were not explored.
