 Der ägyptische Kaufmannssohn Almansor wird ins Lager der Franken verschleppt. Dort lebt er einige Jahre als Geisel. Als die Franken in ihre Heimat abziehen, nehmen sie Almansor mit. Er wird im Frankenland als Diener an einen hartherzigen Arzt vergeben. Eines Tages begegnet er dem König, der ehemals als Feldherr im Lager in Ägypten und Almansor wohlgesonnen war. Er befreit ihn und ermöglicht ihm die Heimfahrt nach Ägypten.

Auf hoher See wird das Schiff jedoch von Algeriern überfallen. Almansor wird als Sklave verkauft. Nach weiteren fünf Jahren kommt er in die Hände eines Sklavenhändlers und gelangt schließlich wieder nach Ägypten.
