 Die Osterhasen bringen jedes Jahr am Tag die Ostereier zu den Kindern. Einmal hat der Osterhase nur zwei anstatt drei Ostereier der Königstochter gebracht, da diese nicht brav und faul war. Daraufhin befielt der König die Osterhasen zu fangen. Ihnen gelingt jedoch die Flucht und sie finden Unterschlupf bei einem Farbenhändler. Seitdem sind die Ostereier farbig und werden von den Osterhasen nur noch nachts verteilt.
