Summary

A powerful approach to bringing God's grace to kids.

Did you know that the way we deal (or don't deal) with our kids' misbehavior shapes their beliefs about themselves, the world, and God? Therefore it's vital to connect with their hearts - not just their minds - amid the daily behavior battles.

With warmth and grace, Jim and Lynne Jackson, founders of Connected Families, offer four tried-and-true keys to handling any behavioral issues with love, truth, and authority. You will learn practical ways to communicate messages of grace and truth, how to discipline in a way that motivates your child, and how to keep your relationship strong, not antagonistic. Discipline is more than just a short-term attempt to modify your child's actions - it's a long-term investment to help them build faith, wisdom, and character for life. When you discover a better path to discipline, you'll find a more well-behaved - and well-believed - kid.

This book is changing my life

Discipline That Connects With Your Child’s Heart is helping me to address long-term struggles in family relationships. It is not a quick fix, but a deep and thorough exploration of the underlying thoughts, feelings and circumstances which feed into our family dynamics, especially conflicts. It is full of the most practical advice on how to address each of those issues and how to move forward by building strong emotional connections between each member of the family.

It holds faithfully to biblical truth, but the principles contained would apply well in families of all faiths or none, because it addresses universal problems inherent to being truly human and living in relationship with one another.

I found the section on encouraging “Gifts Gone Awry” a revolutionary approach to helping children address their mistakes in a way which encourages and builds them up, rather than tearing them down.

For years I have been frustrated by my own failed attempts to parent in a way which really builds strong attachments and emotional ties whilst maintaining long term goals for character growth and true flourishing. I will be forever grateful for the insight and wisdom I am gleaning from mulling over and working through the principles contained here. I think it might do my marriage good, too!

I cannot recommend it highly enough!
