Summary

A detective duo with a difference...

Professional medium turned detective Claire, her best friend Sophie (a 17-year-old ghost) and their pals are enjoying a much-needed cheap holiday in an unfinished hotel on Spike Island off the West Coast of Ireland. Claire is flattered to be asked by the local ghost of a pirate captain to investigate the theft of treasure from the shipwreck that stranded him there several hundred years ago.

But just when she thinks she is closing in on the culprit, a murder takes place, and Claire and her friends quickly become the chief suspects. Can they recover the treasure, solve the murder and clear their names before all is lost?

Relatable entertainment

Such an entertaining wild story that although seems fantastical, the brilliant character writing makes it feel totally relatable and as if such mad happening may very well happen to you one day honour rubbish holiday. The story and its hilarious dialogue all suits any age and a clever feel good who done it. Highly recommend.

A romp of a defective detective novel

Compared to the first book this was a romp through clues, Claire finds herself more or less left to her own detective devices as all her gang go their separate ways for one reason or another. Contained a nice big betrayal, several murders and lost treasure, more detail fun on the nature of ghosts giving extra dimensions to their existence and motivations. I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as the first one but I think in time it’ll turn out to be a favourite.

Enjoyable read, difficult listen

Story is great and well plotted. Maiin characters are enjoyable.
Narrator is pretty poor for this one. Awful Irish accents and bad pronunciation of Irish words. With the author living in Cork, I'd have hoped for more care.

Enjoyable story, awful accents!

Great story and generally good narration but oh my God, the accents were atrocious. Indian/ Liverpool/ Bad American Irish. Very hard to listen to as an Irish person.

A fantastic next step

Building brilliantly on the foundations of Grave Expectations the gang is in full swing and contributes more weight to the story, the 'rules' of ghosts feel more concrete and I can't wait for what comes next.

Disappointing

I loved the first book, but I found this one really boring. The little mini gasps the narrator made at the end of each sentence became all I could hear and some of the accents were awful.
