Praxe se však značně liší od studentských představ, a tak Roy i ostatní bažanti musí čelit mocnému náporu reality v podobě nediagnostikovatelných chorob, odpudivých zranění a úporných pacientů, jakož i své vlastní nekompetentnosti si s čímkoli z toho poradit. Šokující román s autobiografickými prvky, který se svou syrovostí a cynickým humorem může zdát přitažený za vlasy... ale není.
