About this listen
Ellie Vanderwick has hair-raising problems, and we're not just talking about her unruly locks! Yoga may ease the tension, but when it comes to dead bodies, she needs more than just downward dog.
Her life may seem imperfect without friends, family, or a stable job, but she's got her trusty VW Microbus named Mona and her loyal piggy companion, Penelope. Unfortunately, her hair is a different story. It's like magic, but not the kind she likes! Her hair can go berserk at any moment, transforming into curls, bright purple, or even limp strands.
But when Ellie inherits a farm from her late grandmother, she knows it's time to tame the wild strands and uncover the secrets of her past, including why her mother left her at a fire station years ago.
Cliff Haven, Iowa, is a quaint and friendly town, but Ellie's arrival brings more than just her wild hair. When a dead body turns up in her cornfield, the town starts pointing fingers, suspecting Ellie is the culprit. Can she solve the mystery and clear her name before it's too late?
Join Ellie on this magical journey in the first book of the Magical Mane Mystery series. Will she untangle the clues, or will her big hairy secret come out? One thing's for sure; you'll be rooting for Ellie from start to finish!

Great story.
A very enjoyable listen. Good characters and entertaining plot. Plenty going on with humorous moments that made me laugh out loud. Highly recommended Cosy mystery. Shannon Nicole Locke's narration made a good book even better. ☺

Great start to a new series
This is a great start to a new and original series. I loved this author's Reilly Cooper series and thought I would give this one ago too. It is a very different type of book but still very entertaining. The supernatural aspect is very subtly done with no spell casting from the young witch(?) Instead her hair changes to show her emotions and a possible healing touch, not sure about that as it was never explored. This made it interesting and very unusual, although it causes her a lot of drama in her life. The main case does get solved and wrapped up very nicely but there is a lot of mystery surrounding her family background, which I think is going to be revealed the more series unfolds. I did know who the killer was but that was mainly because I wanted a better out come for Ellie. I loved her pig, Penelope, who I think could have solved the case on her own. The rest of the characters were likeable and I look forward to jumping into the next mystery.
A letter from her grandmother informing her she is the soul heir to her farm, comes at the perfect time for Ellie. Sad about the passing of a grandmother she never knew, having grown up in the foster system, Ellie is excited to see what small town life is like. However the first night there she stumbles over a dead man in her corn field and in the process becomes a possible suspect. Ellie will have to uncover the secret behind the death, while trying to keep her own under wraps, namely her uncontrollable hair. A trait it seem she to have inherited and like the grandmother she never knew and the town's people either love her or hate her. Can she find the killer and make the town and her grandmother's farm her own? Or will she have to runaway again?
The narrator was a lot fun and made the story and characters come alive.
