Summary

Aram Raythe has the power to challenge the gods. He just doesn't know it yet.

Aram thinks he’s nothing but a misfit from a small fishing village in a dark corner of the world. As far as Aram knows, he has nothing, with hardly a possession to his name other than a desire to make friends and be accepted by those around him, which is something he’s never known. But Aram is more.

Much, much more.

Unknown to him, Aram bears within him a gift so old and rare that many people would kill him for it, and there are others who would twist him to use for their own sinister purposes. These magics are so potent that Aram earns a place at an academy for warrior mages training to earn for themselves the greatest place of honor among the armies of men: dragon riders.

Aram will have to fight for respect by becoming not just a dragon rider, but a Champion, the caliber of mage that hasn’t existed in the world for hundreds of years. And the land needs a Champion. Because when a dark god out of ancient myth arises to threaten the world of magic, it is Aram the world will turn to in its hour of need.

I don't really know what to say

This book to me, for lack of a better description, feels extremely weird. Even now looking back at listening to it I have lots of conflicting and confusing feelings about it.

Nevertheless I would say it is a good and intruiging story, the biggest problem for me was narration, which is obviously very subjective.

I find it very hard to describe other than weird, but like I said, the story is good and intruiging despite that.

Wow, wow, wow, what a book

One of if not the best book I've read in years. This was absolutely incredible from start to finish, the narration was fantastic, the story had so many insane moments I thought I'd reached the end multiple times. The sheer power and emotion that can felt through how this book is written is second to none, and the battle scenes, particularly those featuring dragons. Was incredible 10/10 can't wait for book 2

Solid Book

For me, this book book is a bit of a mixed experience. it's the first I've read by the author, and while it feels like it lends itself to more classical fantasy with clear good and evil, and a live for dragons and the fantastical, it clashes with the sometimes much darker tones.

It shines in the times of whimsy, where you get to experience a magical world of loose rules, compared to something more rigid like Sanderson. The two main characters feel good.

But then there are the protracted descriptions of violence and brutality. I feel those scenes did very little for the book, and after a while they felt tired to me.

There are other things that bother me. Such as how every time a dragon flies, it banks. Felt a bit like "aight, this might be the author's favourite word", and some pacing and relationship dynamics felt a bit odd.

Still, very much an enjoyable listen and I do recommend it.

Incredible! Didn't want it to end!

This book and this world enthralled me from beginning to end. I didn't want it to end! All of the characters were vivid, as were settings. The fight scenes were so beautifully written, and indeed the writing in general is so absorbing. I was on the edge of my seat so many times and just stopped even trying to guess what was going to happen and went along for the ride. And, oohhhhh if you love Dragons, you're in for such a treat. the Dragons are revered in this book and described so beautifully and fiercely. Also, the narrator was/is perfect for such a story. I cannot wait for the sequel to come out!

Mistitled?

I enjoyed this book a lot. It was a fun read full of suspense and a few surprises but one of the surprises was that it seems like it was mistitled. I hope that’s not a spoiler. I don’t think it is but I did find myself wondering how it’s going to live up to that title.

It's a fun listen

I came to this book without any expectations for it and came out satisfied as I've found the book contained a fun story and charming characters. It's not a very deep and complex story but that's what makes it fun to listen to, I was able to just sit back and enjoy it for what it is.

As for the narrator, I've enjoyed their performance and funnily enough I've encountered the opposite of what I usually complain about which was the narration speed. Usually I end up needing to speed up the playback speed a small bit to enjoy the auidbook however this time I had to slow it down to be able to keep up with it, found that 0.9-0.95x speed was perfect.

100 chapters of enjoyment

Now that's what I call an absolute thrilling tale to listen to. For anyone into this type of book it is a must to buy and listen to. The story is enthrauling , the narration is excellent. the author calls it Rivenworld book 1. I just wonder if there is a follow up to this, if so, I will be watching out.

Not a bad wee tale

Not bad. I'm not sure how much I cared what happened to the characters. I thought it was interesting that the main character seemed to be on the spectrum. It gave a reasonable account for some of the difficulties a person would have.

A fantastic read

It is careful, confident writing that produces a boy like Aram and his friend Markus. I can assure you, reader, the intrigue, wonder and world-building is excellent in this book, but it falls a short second to the written word. Truly, the writing forms what is great.
