Summary

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now the sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel. Still longing to know the fate of her beloved warrior, she recounts the story of her stay with him in the intrigue-ridden court of Charles Stuart and their attempt to avert the doomed Highlands uprising at Culloden. As her story unfolds, it reveals implications more far-reaching than even Claire could have guessed.

Narrator Davina Porter's gift for expression captures the history and flavor of a harsh place and time, and gives it the polish of a warm and engaging love story.

Great Scot: don't miss Outlander, the first book in this great series.

As good as Outlander

I purchased Dragonfly in Amber as I was nearing the end of Outlander as I didn't wish my reading experience to be interrupted. I had got very engrossed in the story of Claire and Jamie.

In this book we learn a little more of Frank and how he reacted to claires' disappearance and subsequent return, pregnant.

I really enjoyed the time shift and arrival in Scotland of Claire and Briana and how the stroppy young lady reacts to hearing about her real father.

this book is a mixture of historical fact mixed with fiction making the story so real with its added humour and heartache as well as being on the edge of ones seat to learn what is to happen next.

A very long listen

Others have reviewed the book with excellence and so I limit my comment to liking the historical research, and the cleverness of weaving the story through that history.
However, I did feel that the emotions, behaviours and also sex was overdone in places. Some of those observations and meanderings might have trimmed the book a little and focussed more on the drama.
Good book though. I will give it time till I try the next in the series as I really could not face such a marathon listen just now!

I love this book, but I can hear talking in the background an echo or something?

Maybe in going mad

Really good to listen too

Narrator is really good at doing different voices so know who's who, love the story. The chapters numbers were muddled up but didn't make may difference with story still carried on.

A thoroughly good read.

Excellent I I all three categories. I look forward to the next book in the series.I will wait in hopeful anticipation. THe authoress creates a marvellous atmosphere and has obviously done a tremendous job in researching the background material. The characters are well crafted and retain this throughout the whole book.

Well done Diana Gbaldon
