Summary

The second part of the series from Diana Gabaldon that explores the power of a love that transcends space and time. A magnificent epic that once again sweeps us back in time to the drama and passion of 18th-century Scotland....

For 20 years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his....

Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire's spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart...in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising...and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.

A good entertaining listen even if a bit too long

This book follows on easily from the first. although to begin with the reader is uncertain whether the flick back into time is a short clip or the majority of the book. When its clear that its back to life in the 17th century following Claire and Jamie's life in France and then inevitably back to Scotland. It has the same detail about everyday life from the toiletting of the King to lice removal. Her description of history appears well researched and presented. Diana's enjoyment of describing the passion and sex continues. When Claire departs from her love back to more modern times it seems to come suddenly and unexpected. It seemed to me that there was a bit missing as she had earlier referred to being at Culloden field but then was not there. Catching up with what was back in the 20th century and how it was linked to history was cleverly woven into the story. The final chapters kept the intrigue alive and gave the opening into the next book. I spend a great deal of time driving long distances and this book has certainly kept me entertained. At times i found that there was too much detail and passages that did not add to the story but seeed to draw it out, when this happend i would have liked to have fast forwarded but was worried about loosing the next important bit of intrigue. I loved listening to the book scoring a 4 out of 5 due the what i felt were the parts that drew out the book but did not add to the story and could have easily been left out. Great read though.

Wow!

Certainly value for money! 43 hours of entertainment...the story is excellent and full of detail and excitement but the real treasure of this Audible book is the readers presentation! Her accents and control of them make the book real and at times I’d have sworn there had to be a few people reading the story!
I listen to anything she reads but than heavens she does all of the remaining Claire & Jamie stories...

It’s so packed with action it felt like 3 books

Where does Dragonfly In Amber rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Bang in the middle. The story is fantastic, the narration decent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dragonfly In Amber?

One and without spoilers? That's difficult. There were many memorable moments in this intense and action-packed book

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, but it was nothing extraordinary

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hold on tight!!

Any additional comments?

This was the last one I truly liked from this series, I lost interest mid-way through the third book.

Great book!

Great book, absolutely fantastic story but the "American accent" used by the performer for Brianna is absolutely woefull.

It’s a great listen

The descriptions are very strong with bouts of laughter at some of the comments. I gave it a month between the first and second books. I’m going straight on to the third book

Absolutely devoured this book!

I love the rawness and passion in this story of love, hate, loyalty, courage, duty and honour. Brilliantly narrated.
