Critic reviews

"McCaffrey uses great imaginative powers in constructing her intricate and intriguing story." ( Booklist)
"Menolly's independent, resolute character, the fascinating dragon lore, and a certain poetic quality of style all combine to create an original fantasy...akin to the work of Ursula LeGuin." ( Horn Book)

All time favorite

This was the first of the PERN novels I read so many years ago. I loved it back then and I loved listening to it now and will now go on and listen to the rest.

I know some didn't like the narration but I found it good. It was clear and the individual characters were voiced well.

A great telling from the world of Pern. A place I visited often in my youth. Great to return

I read many of Anne McAffery's Pern stories, over forty years ago now. I had not read this. The main character is present in many of the other tales and it was great to hear this back story fill out her early life. Well read and performed this brings the old familiar world of Pern with all it's colour and joy nack to life.

Narration at its best

Brought together in one volume, this is a great way to appreciate some of Anne McCaffrey's stories. If you love the Dragon series, you will love these tales.

I first read these whilst I was growing up, and it was great to recapture the spirit through someone else's voice and intonation,

Vety good listen

After many years, it was good to “read” this trilogy again. Well read, with no “jarring” to pull you out of the book.

Glad to see Anne McCaffrey getting a bit more recognition. I believe she always considered herself as writing science fiction with romance attached.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Difficult to stop listening. I want a fire lizard! A bronze would be even better!

Enjoyed listening to a much loved story

Living in the UK , the pronunciation of names of characters in my head were of course different from the American pronunciation in this American book ..however Sally Darling does the Anne Mc Caffrey proud ..I loved listening to this favourite tale this week - Enjoy !
