Summary

Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Romance, history, and time travel blend once again as the couple builds a new life together in the wilderness of pre-Revolutionary America.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Davina Porter's narrative talent adds a special vibrance and resonance to Gabaldon's complex, colorful characters.

Critic reviews

"Gabaldon's range is impressive, whether she's evoking the rawness of colonial America, the cozy clutter of a modern Scottish parsonage, the lusts of the body or the yearnings of the spirit. Her legion of fans will love diving into this ocean of romance." ( Publishers Weekly)

Great storyline

An epic drama following the lives of Claire and Jamie and their daughter Brianna. Set in 1770 and modern times, this time-travelling plot has plenty of adventure and excitement. The characters are drawn well, the main three being likeable and believable. It is read well, the only criticism is the annoying mispronunciation of ‘plaid’, ‘rowan’ and ‘respite’

Diana has found a new platform for this series.

A bit slow and repetitive at the start but well worth the perseverance
The range of voices and vocal character is 1st Class.
The.editor needs to check who is where and when, and to remind the listener how a character had developed in an earlier book.

The Story continues and continues and continues...

Outlander is a really good story but does go on a bit sometimes. Bear with it.

Still Enjoying it. .

The Saga continues. I'm still enjoying the plot. There's plenty of adventure and colour, love romance, violence and a bit of gore. They were harsher times for sure! Downside? While I love this narrator, her pronunciations can be a bit strange at times.

Brilliant adventure, pace and standard maintained from earlier novels.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Drums of Autumn?

Too many to identify one,

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favourite?

Claire obviously, the dry wit of the character is superb.

Both

Any additional comments?

Brilliant as it was, the story wouldn't have been as powerful without the narration

Drums of Autumn

A continuation of the Outlander series. Rich in detail of the time, with three dimensional characters I can love and yet accept their all too human flaws. Excellent narration as always by Davina Porter whom I must thank for making the audio experience of Outlander as wonderful for me as the reading of them.
