About this listen
Tate left the LAPD after his partner Jason died. He didn’t want to discuss the traumatic experience with anyone, but when a former brother in blue arrives in Sequoia, Tate is forced to confront his demons or start running again.
Zion has made a home in Sequoia, but her conflict between her past with David and her future with Tate must be reconciled. However, when her best friend Rebekah winds up on her doorstep, Zion finds her attention divided between her life and the train-wreck that has become Rebekah’s.
With the first annual Halloween festival fast approaching, the townspeople in Sequoia are confronted with the possibility that violence might once again visit their town, and both Tate and Zion are caught right in the middle of it.

Once again, M.L.Hamilton has filled the town with believable, living (and sometimes outrageous) characters beyond just the main protagonists. And yes, Jaguar is still there, preparing to open his store. Although completely stand alone, Espresso is much enriched if the reader has already met Zion and the other townsfolk in earlier books. The mystery itself is late in developing, the earlier part filled with romantic indecision which This reader would have preferred to be greatly reduced. But when it comes, the story is a good one.
As previously, Kelley Hazen narrates. She has an amazing capacity not only to read the text well, with full intonation and emotion, but also to give really distinctive and appropriate voices to every one of the numerous characters, switching effortlessly between them. She helps being the whole book, and the people, to life. A great performance.
It was good to meet the folks of Sequoia again, despite the twee names of the stores (like the 'Knitatorium', and just check out the deli!). Now I'm just waiting for the next one...
