Suspenseful and fast paced
I am hooked on Katerina Carter books now. I loved her desperate attempt at saving her career by taking a difficult case. Little did she know just how difficult it would become. Katerina investigated as she would, but it lead her down a dark path that threatened her life and those around her. This book is suspenseful from the moment she accepts the job, I could not put it down. I easily got lost in the story and enjoyed every word.
Petrea Burchard has an easy to listen to voice. Burchard has a distinct tone for each character and keeps them all consistent. I enjoyed this narration and look forward to hearing more in the series.

Loved it!
I listened to this book via Audible, and really enjoyed it! The forensic accountant angle for a protagonist is a new and unusual one for me, but one that worked well. Katerina (Kat) Carter is struggling to keep her Practice – and her life – afloat, when she’s hired by Liberty Diamonds following a $5 billion dollar embezzlement. But the prologue showing a daughter trying to betray her arms-dealing gangster of a father gives us a steer that there’s much more going on here.
Kat is hired by the CEO to try and track down the missing funds, but soon uncovers clues to something much bigger going on. With her foolish uncle having invested much more than he can afford into Liberty Diamonds, and her own livelihood hanging in the balance, there’s a lot at stake.
Kat Carter is an interesting choice of protagonist, smart, yet vulnerable, but with a dogged determination that drives her to uncover the truth, even as the bodies start mounting up, and it’s clear that her own life is in grave danger.
Great characters, great story and great narration (even though I struggled not to liken Uncle Harry’s voice to that of Marge Simpson!)

A well researched story
Listened to this one on audible. I was familiar with Colleen Cross’s writing as I’d also listened to one of her Westwick Witches’ series too. The narration across the two was fairly similar and I actually liked the narration more in this book. Although, I did keep linking voices in this one, to that book.
An intriguing tale of corporate fraud with twists a plenty. Never knew there was such a thing as forensic accountants and there was a lot of research into the diamond trade illicit and licit within this novel. I learnt a lot.
My gauge for a good series, is whether I’d read or listen to another. Would I? Yes, I would. Rather liked Kat’s tenacity and her need to have justice served. Pay attention, as there is a huge amount of detail that is integral to the story.

Who knew fraud could be this exciting?
This book was so different to any of the other thrillers I've read//listened to. Forensic accountancy wouldn't normally be my idea of fun, and I admit I did occasionally find it confusing., but I now understand much more than I did before reading this. There's blood diamonds, money laundering, insider trading, murder, and a heroine who just won't give up. The story is well crafted and fast paced with some genuine edge of the seat moments. and the narration was spot on.

Fab
This story was great.
It’s got so much detail into the crimes & characters it must have taken ages to research.
Such a change from the Witchy books. I love them & loved this!
The narrator was really good. Tempo spot and she kept the characters going so well.
Really fab start to I’m hoping is a new series.

Interesting story
Very interesting story, a twist on the murder mystery with money and diamonds mixed it. ( what more could a girl want aha) great story with a lot of detailing mixed it about diamond mining. Has a couple of dry moments in the explanations but these are needed to advance the storyline. I'd recommend this book as a great lazy listen

A really great read
A whirlwind story of murder, betrayal, underhand dealings, diamonds and a mafia boss. When Forensic Accountant Katerina Carter is hired to find a missing 5 billion dollars she uncovers layer upon layer of deception and soon realises that she can trust no one. A really great read with excellent narration by Petrea Burchard

Fascinating
Loved this audiobook. I was fascinated by the world Kat lived in throughout this fast paced story. Lots of new information to take in, but that just made it a whole lot more interesting. I liked the plot and intrigue relating to business shenanigans and the shifting of illegal diamonds. A great debut, and excellent narration that kept me hooked. Looking forward to the next one.

Easy to follow crime story.
I enjoyed this audio book once I had got over the voice of Harry who sounded oddly like Marge Simpson. This was a little disconcerting considering it was meant to be a serious crime drama!
That said, the story was good, and easy to follow with a few moments where I shouted at Kat and her impetuousness.
I would definitely look out for a book by Colleen Cross again but with a different narrator.

Brilliant legal thriller
Legal thrillers have never been high on my listening list, but this very one may just change that,I really enjoyed this one. From the very beginning the opening line ,the action came thick and fast, from then it just got better and better. I found Katerina, believable and a real tryer, I loved all the close relationships, which proves there is nothing more important than family, specially in such a story. I found the plot well written and twisty and turny, just when i thought I had a handle on the story, another twist would hit from nowhere, I enjoyed every min of it. Every character whether a main player or minor role, I honestly loved the bad guys as much as the good. What started life as a simple fraud case soon grew so many arms and legs,it turned into a big brilliant legal thriller spider. The narrator for this rollercoaster was, Petrea Burchard, another new name in a increasingly long list of new and brilliant narrators I've heard since starting this blog, she does an excellent job, good pace and timing, wonderful accents, one to keep an ear out for. If legal thrillers are your thing, 0r like me you are fairly new to the genre this would be a good place to start, it has action, suspense and action and a class story as well.
