Much like honour harrington and in a good way.
Entertaining and surprising plot development. But on the big scale expected results in the end.

I am hooked

It is quite difficult to write an impartial review without inadvertently giving away the plot. So, I will limit myself to commenting on the narrator.

I find her portrayal of many of the characters, quite irritatingly novice. She doesn't know how to inject emotion appropriately into the sentences of some of the officers. One officer whispers everything - I believe that this is to portray the fact that she is female. Another officer is always shouting - again I think that this is to portray a Marine. Another, has a fearful tone, irrespective of what is being said - portraying a young man. The list goes on. It's not noticeable to begin with but, as the pace quickens, it becomes more noticeable and starts to grate.

Fortunately it doesn't quite spoil the enjoyment of the book. This is part 2 of a 4 part series and continues on fluidly. Very fast paced, quite specious and ending with a couple of sharp intakes of breath and a twee smile.

I’m anxious to progress to book 3 and, thanks to my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I can press onwards immediately. If you're sensitive to diction, listen to a sample of the novel first. The narrator may not bother you, but she started to intrude into my listening experience. Which is a shame as I have 2 more books to get through.

I really like Chris Nuttall's books, and am really enjoying this sequel, but I've had to give up on listening to it, I'm now reading it on my Kindle because the narration is so awful.

Sad to say, Lauren Ezzo just cannot 'do' male voices. Since most of the characters are male it is a bit of a problem. I gritted my teeth through book 1, but this is just painful. I won't be trying a third time, I'm afraid.

I Have read both books and each one has got better .
The stories in both books have great characters that have developed as each book has come to life.
I am very impatient waiting to get the next Book ,so please hurry and get book 3 released.

This is an excellent story let down by a limited vocal performance from the narrator. The book is fast paced with plenty of action, intrigue and drama, but my enjoyment was hampered as all the characters sound the same this narrator struggles with producing a convincing male character. Saying that I have to find out how the series ends so I will persevere

To be honest I stopped listening to it after a few hours. The narrators characterisations and “Voices” are pretty terrible. At one point I began to wonder if this was supposed to be a comedy! So bad that as I stay I could put up with listening anymore.

I can't find this book great. It's almost the same as entire Empire's Corp's saga. So if you liked it you should like this (of course this is more navy concentrated story) . If you didn't liked Empire Corp saga... Read Ark Royal instead ;)

Empire's Corps v2.0

This is a space-naval drama that carries an enormous number of parallels with the Kris Longknife series (strong female lead from a wealthy aristocratic family, run away to the navy, promoted beyond her experience and given unrealistic odds but through wit and excellent leadership is enormously successful) , although a totally different story and political situation are at play.

Personally I like science fiction for the science and space operas for the complex politics. This story is more of a naval drama than a science fiction or a political space opera. I wish there was more focus on the science, but I am a high school science teacher so I have my personal biases. None the less, I was drawn in by the story and by the developing characters. The voice acting is great and it's a decent story, but does not compete with the Enders series, Asimov's Foundation or the more whimsical Kris Longknife.

I did find this book to be a step up from the first in the series and hopefully it will improve with further publications. I'll give it a solid three and a half stars and I'll definitely be buying the next one when it comes out.

Decent, better than book 1

again I will be listening to the next book in the series as I really want to know what happens with some of the plot Lines but narrator is not able to do the range of Voices necessary for this story. Many of the the male characters are completely laughable when she reads them ranging from the the ships executive officer who sounds like he's permanently about to fall asleep to the priest from the enemy fleet who sounds like he has a speech impediment. this is a shame as the story is often spoilt by me getting annoyed at how pathetic some of the characters sound.
