Summary

The day that Hilary and David have been waiting for has finally arrived and as the church bells ring out for the arrival of the bride, everyone's fingers are crossed for the day to go without a hitch. The festivities set the tone for the year ahead and there's more love in the air in Burracombe so planning continues for both Dottie and Joe's and Frances and James's nuptials. There's nothing like a wedding to bring the village together. Times are changing in Burracombe and as young and old embark on new adventures it's time to say goodbye. But with friends like these, a goodbye is rarely for ever, so instead we'll say a very fond farewell.

Farewell to Burracombe

Enjoyable to the end, just a little bit disappointed that Anne Dover was not the narrator as she previously read all the other Burracombe Book

Disappointing last volume due to narration

The final saga is good in terms of on-going (and some new) story lines.

The first and last volumes are narrated by different people from the intervening ones, all read by the brilliant Anne Dover. Has the narrator of this last book also read the others, I doubt I’d have carried on. The young men all sound about 80 years old. Australian characters are introduced and after that some of the Devon cast seem to acquire Australian accents. Really odd and inconsistent. It’s a shame to conclude a good series this way.

Wonderful story ruined by rubbish narrator

I have loved every Lilian Harry book and read them all. After having a baby audiobooks worked best for me as I had less time. Sadly, the narrator on this final Burracombe book is terrible. For some reason it's a different person to the other books which are excellently read. The accents in this one are really over dramatic, fake sounding and breathy in a lot of places. Really sad because I love Lilian Harry and this has spoilt the last Burracombe series book for me so much so that I've given up and am trying to fit in reading it now so that it doesn't ruin this book for me. I found myself desperate for the stupid narration to end. Really disappointed

Ruined by awful narration

I am struggling to listen to this! Like another listener, I had built up pictures of all the characters from Anne Dover’s narrations. This narrator has reduced them all to caricatures like very cruel cartoon figures!! Having looked forward to this book’s publication I really doubt that I will ever finish it as the portrayal makes me so cross!! Any chance of a rival recording of it by Anne Dover? I am relieved to see that the new prequel ‘A Child in Burracombe’ is once more read by Anne Dover and I shall be using a credit on that.

the narrator

was absolutely dreadful. it quite spoiled the book for me which was somewhat disappointing. I have listened to the series up to now, if I had listened to this first I wouldn't have listened to any more.

Disappointing finale

Having listened and enjoyed all the Burracombe books this was spoilt by the reader. Her voice grated and for me spoilt my listening. I have really enjoyed all the books, life in a village with all the characters and plot lines but this last one for me was a bit repetitive.

Disappointing Listen.

Having listened to all of the Burracombe Books prior to this one.. I can honestly say I have loved & enjoyed them all & could not wait to listen to the next edition. The narrator for these books having been Anne Dover.. Sadly for whatever the reason being, the Narrator for Farewell to Burracombe was changed to Janine Birkett.. I had mentally over the years built up pictures of the characters & could recognise their voices through Anne's narration. But with Janine's narration I had to start over again & personally I did not like the characteration's she chose.. In particular Felix! If there are any more Burracombe books in the future, unless Anne Dover does the narration I will sadly have to give the books a miss!! Please, please, if it is at all possible to do so bring back Anne Dover to Burracombe!!!

Disappointed!

I have listened to all the previous Burracombe books on Audible and enjoyed them, sometimes listening more than once. This one was very disappointing, the reader was different and made the characters sound like different people! That is sad, as I felt I knew the characters and they suddenly had different personalities. I won’t listen to any subsequent books in the series. 🙁
