Summary

While Laura Ingalls grows up in a little house on the Western prairie, Almanzo Wilder is living on a big farm in New York State. Here Almanzo and his brother and sisters help with the summer planting and fall harvest. In winter there is wood to be chopped and great slabs of ice to be cut from the river and stored. Time for fun comes when the jolly tin peddler visits or, best of all, when the fair comes to town.

This is Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of how her husband, Almanzo, grew up as a farmer boy far from the little house where Laura lived.

Almost perfect...

This is one of my all-time favourite books. I love the story, the subject, the style of writing, and the narration here almost did it justice. Just a shame that a couple of times I was distracted by what I am sure were mis-pronunciations and which had me reaching for the (American) dictionary to check ! I realise that there can be huge regional variations in accents and I thought Ms Jones voice well suited the material but there still has to be a standard pronunciation or the meaning is lost. Primer and primmer are not the same word!

Great to learn about history

This is a really good book. Very descriptive and honest. Good for children to learn how people can look after themselves.

The violin!!😻😻😻😻

Oh my gosh the violin is amazing! It's also rlly relaxing when I listen to this when I try to get to sleep. And the narrator is amazing too! Doesn't talk to fast, a pace that you can easily understand and the expression blows my mind. I totally recommend this book and I PROMISE you you won't regret it!🫶✌️

Very enjoyable

One of my favourite Laura Ingalls Wilder books.Read aloud in full – though some peculiar pronunciation especially of the word “primer“ – but perhaps that’s the American way!

😕 fun but.....

The story is written beautifully but there are a few things I don't understand. Firstly why didn't they change the narrator to someone male. For another thing why is almanzo so hungry all the time whilst Laura ingalls enjoy little things. All in all I think this is well written but the story it self is not very good. I prefer Laura more.

Enjoyable for multiple ages

Not our favourite Little House story but my children age 4,9 & 11 enjoyed it nonetheless. It’s a great story and series for multiple ages to listen too.
