Inspiring

Kim’s book is a very interesting look into the mindset of a leader you’d want to follow and someone you would want to guide you in your own career. I got this book for her A10 stories but I stayed for her anecdotes and her humble enthusiasm for everything she committed herself to.
Erin gives an excellent performance which cannot be understated as she genuinely seems to understand and connect with the what she is reading out.

An excellent book written by a consummate leader

TL,DR:
Not what I was expecting, but a great book to read whether you are an aviation enthusiast, joining any military service arm, a leader, a parent or just want to improve yourself.

Detail:
First, it is an honour to be the first to provide a written review of this book on Audible. As a military aviation enthusiast, I purchased this book on the basis of having first read about Col. Campbell’s infamous mission over Iraq some years ago and I was looking forward to a book focusing on the A10 and military aviation.

I was initially a little disappointed that while Col. Campbell’s time in the military is certainly covered, it serves as a medium for a book that focuses on effective leadership and mindset. This was not my rationale for purchasing this book as I find such books to be quite dreary, even when informative. However, I continued with the book and found that I enjoyed it, despite the more limited nature of content regarding the A10 and military aviation – ‘Hogs In The Sand’ this book is not.

The overarching leadership approach identified in this book is derivative rather than definitive. However, this should in no way detract from the critical messages and lessons Col. Campbell applies to her own life experiences in the USAF. It is in the blending of these established leadership principles with military values, lessons from military aviation and woven into Col. Campbell’s own unique experiences that gives this book its claim to greatness.

It is a fascinating read, written by a fascinating person who has had the fortune of leading a fascinating life. The book is extremely well structured, accessible (even for those not versed in aviation/military culture) as well as being very easy to read and absorb.

Would that 25 years ago I had read this book and had the grit (read the book) to follow through with its teachings. I suspect that this is not the last we shall hear of Kim Campbell - or at least, I hope it’s not.

If only all leaders followed this example.

Boring monotone reading of the book

Massive respect for her service. However the story for me was very flat and didn't engage or excited me.
