Entre las amantes más odiadas de su marido está Fortunata, una mujer de clase obrera que, a pesar de su situación, parece gozar de aquello que más ansía. Sin embargo, Fortunata también se siente atrapada, pues su condición social le impide legitimar un amor que cree más genuino que el impuesto por el matrimonio.
