About this listen
In Victorian London, in an age when steam and clockwork power is all-important, a series of events throws Oliver, Jake, and Charlotte into conflict with the authorities. They come from very different backgrounds and join forces with an escaped slave, a street urchin, and a prostitute to form an airship crew—The Rebel Runaways. With the country in the hands of the army and beset by street gangs, escape is their priority. When they realize the depths to which the corrupt government and a wicked industrialist are willing to stoop, they turn to face the enemy.
Life will never be the same again for the crew and for the world, but unless the Rebel Runaways can succeed, society will slide into an abyss. Freedom Skies is the first book in The Rebel Runaways series. The series features adventure stories that blend fiction with actual places, creating an alternative history and spotlighting the period when Steampunk began.
If you enjoy books like The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher, Perdido Street Station by China Miéville, or the Magnificent Devices series by Shelley Adina, you will love this story.

Charlotte wants to fly but as the only child of a rich family and a girl at that, she is expected to marry for money. Jake an orphan is only expected to clean the factories floors and his dreams of being talented enough to build himself a new hand have to be just a dream. Oliver an ex solider just wants to drink or fight his way through life, until an unexpected encounter has the three of them running for there lives. Oliver has an aircraft and together the three of them flee the London gangs, guards and Charlotte's rich family. Along the way they help others in trouble and form there own family, the problem is Jake knows more about what Charlotte's father was planning and when he pieces together the plan it has 'The Rebel Runaways' returning to London to stop him before its to late.
There is something about being read to by a a talented narrator that makes a story so much entertaining then when you read it yourself and this narrator certainly has that skill and power. She even did a few accents but not so sure I was keen on her drunken singing.
