Summary
Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.
A Maiden...
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
A Duty...
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
A Kingdom...
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

A great listen
I’m not going to go into my thoughts on the story itself, as I’m sure the majority of us are listening to this after having already listened to the original audiobook (or reading the books).
I did really enjoy this adaptation of FBAA. I loved how much more immersive it felt, and made the characters and scenes really come alive.
There were a few pronunciations that differed from what was used in the original audiobook and also from how I myself pronounced things when reading the books that felt a little jarring (Carsodonia and Masadonia being the main ones). I’m not sure if it’s a case of the previous audiobook being wrong or this one, but either way at this point I’m so used to the other audio that the differing pronunciations in this one feel wrong. I’m not gonna hold it against them (too much) because things like this always tend to happen, but I do wish that they’d try to keep things consistent throughout the different mediums.
I also really wish they’d set it out in chapters rather than parts. How am I supposed to know which part my favourite scenes are in if they don’t match with the chapters in the book??
Overall, I think this is good. I think I’ll still find myself going back to the other versions for my rereads, but this is still a nice treat every now and then.

Okay...
Okay, nope just nope, there is no one but Tim Campbell who can narrate Casteel. I'm sorry, but they can't
I love the story like the books, but Casteel's voice in this dramatised version just didn't hit me off. That being said I will get the others because I love the books, but I can't say it's my favourite depiction of the series

Great quality audio
The best of Jennifer L Armentrout presented excellently. The voice actors put in a brilliant performance (Tawney and Hawke stand outs). Special effects are done with a light touch and the background music isn't too distracting. One of the best done audio books I've come across on this app.

Makikg the story come alive
I've already read the from blood and ash- books many times and then saw this on audible.
The actors are very believable and the way they act truly makes it seem like they are standing next to me. The background noises are perfect and matches the scene every time, even the walking sound and crickets matches very good. The only surprise for me was that Hawk was British (in my head he had a different accent haha) - but I got used to it fast!
I would gladly recommend this for people that haven't read the books and for those who has :)

Already read book, but wanted to hear voice actors
I love the blood and ash series, I've read all of them, I only downloaded this as I was curious and wanted the characters to come to life. However the only voice actor I loved in this was Hawke! I cannot stand Poppy's voice in this as it is a bit too dramatic for me. Had to keep pausing it. Sorry!

Bad acting and wrong pronunciation
I have read and listened to other versions of this series and I've enjoyed them all, but this one did not do it justice. I'm disappointed because I was looking forward to this one.
