I really enjoyed this travel memoir. In fact, I'd read the kindle edition quite a while ago, and, as it is a shorter read, (the audiobook is about 1 hour 36 mins, so still reasonably substantial), one that I thought I would like to try on audiobook format after not having listened to one for quite a while.

I really liked the voice of the narrator. I knew this as soon as she said the title and read the prologue. I'm not just saying this-some voices for audiobooks, I haven't liked as much. I settled straight into this one telling me the story.

The author is in Indonesia. A powerful start, describing the devastation and injuries. Great description which captures the place perfectly. No one seemed too worried, there’d be just a few aftershocks, then all would be calm and serene again.......wouldn't it?

Brilliantly described, it must have been so scary. It's raw; shocking. You get exactly what it was like from the writing. The devastation, and the desperation to escape the island.

I love the musical chapter titles. Lots of musical refs-every chapter title is a song-all totally relevant, and help set the scene. I remember these mainly from reading the book-I'm not so sure they would have stood out to me if I'd had the audio edition first? The tracks sort of went through my mind as I read, but it didn't come across quite the same when someone was reading it out to me, not singing. That's a small point though.

I thought the timing was well done-I realise it’s probably how it happened, but it makes for an unpredictable journey. Travels of a lifetime became the adventure of her life.

It was great to experience this book again, I enjoyed it just as much on audio.

Excellent book, great narration

Jacky’s Audible narrator gives dramatic voice to the island events and there’s sound effects. She portrays the emotions in the situations that arose & conversations between islanders and tourists. This is a very descriptive tale of the catastrophe.
It’s a riveting memoir of Jacky’s very interesting, & memorable, for all the wrong reasons, visit to the previously idyllic Gili Air. This tiny Indonesian island next to Lombok suffered a series of fatal earthquakes in 2018. Jacky gives a detailed account of how she, other tourists and the locals were affected by the devastation; and how very difficult the following days were for people.
