Will Young
About this listen
In 2001 Will Young shot to fame as the first winner of Pop Idol. It was clear from the start that he would never be a typical pop star - and more than 10 years later he has become one of our best-loved and most intriguing artists.
From his dramatic experiences on Pop Idol; to coming out in the glare of the media spotlight; to his valiant struggles against depression; to the crazy reality of being famous, Will is open about both the highs and lows of his life. He also provides sound and practical advice on dealing with the DVLA helpline - something that has been woefully neglected by all other celebrity memoirs.
If you have ever wondered what it's like to attend a fashion show (and find yourself accidentally waving at Anna Wintour); how it feels to sing in front of thousands while fighting a catastrophic bout of low self-esteem; or be subjected to the terror that is a This Morning 'makeover', then Funny Peculiar reveals all. It also reveals what not to say if you ever meet David Beckham.
Moving, witty and scrupulously honest, Funny Peculiar is a refreshingly different and fascinating autobiography by a true original. Read by the author.

Fantastic book
I loved this book. It was beautifully read and Will Young is so funny and painfully honest. He speaks so openly about his mental health struggles but does so with reflective humour. Brilliant.

Surprised me
I like Will You g, but even if you don’t you’d find this story really interesting.
He combines fact with humour and gives a very candid account of his experiences.
Only gripe was he seemed to condense a few years of the story into half a chapter at some point and I would have liked the same consistent detail as was in the rest of the book.

Utterly HYSTERICAL!
I never realised Will Young was such a comedian. The way he is able to laugh at himself is heartwarming. Battling with depression he’s still managed to find humour - I don’t know how he manages to recall so many stories in his life, I can barely remember yesterday. Honestly they funniest book I’ve read (listened to) in a very long time. Belly laughs a minute. Well done & thank you Will. I hope you one day make it onto The Voice! All my love Pat Brown....just kidding (this will make sense if you listen to the book) 😉

Will Young A Man To Be Proud
I've always loved Will Young's music. And I can remember how emotional it was watching him win Pop Idol and singing Evergreen at the end. But it saddens me to realise how much pain is caused by a world that is not excepting of everyone. Everyone on this planet deserves to be proud of who they are and not feel ashamed and to live their life how they want to. Will if you are reading this, you are a lovely young man who I know will find happiness with someone. You should be so proud of who you are and all your talents and achievements. Wishing you a happy life! x

Love this so much!
To hear something so, honest and true is rare. People like to skip over the truth of things to colour themselves in certain ways. Will Young has not done this, instead has committed himself to the bare truths of himself.
And as such has created a wonderful, funny, witty, sad, and beautiful book that I could listen to again and again.
It has helped me greatly to know that even with mental health issues, someone as talented as him has done so much as continues too. It gives me hope that I can as well.
Thank you Xxx

Funny and relatable
I mostly enjoyed this. Not going to lie though, the fact he’s chewing gum through most of it is really irritating and kinda gross. I did enjoy the writing and his performance though and I appreciated how candid he was. Very relatable.

Just lovely
I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was a light hearted easy listen that explores some tricky subjects such as depression and sexuality. Will talks openly about how these have shaped his life and continue to affect him. He clearly has the ability to laugh at himself and his own mistakes. His style of story telling is sincere and his narration is easy on the ears. The book came across as honest and it made me laugh. Funny Peculiar is a very apt title for this entertaining book.

Honest, funny and a little sad. A great listen
I've enjoyed this book so much. Will writes from the heart and gives a very honest, witty and open account of his life to date.
I had never imagined he had suffered from depression and his openess about the subject is touching. I love that he reads it himself and was sorry when it finished. I will miss his voice keeping me company.
listening made me revisit some of his music and he really is a very under rated performer in my opinion. 10/10
