About this listen

When the zombies start stumbling over the hill - and we all know they're on their way - what's the first weapon you should grab?

A garden fork. Preferably forged from a single piece of steel. Not because, given a good enough shove, its tines would pierce a zombie's skull as easily as an overripe melon, but because come the end of the world, gardening will be what saves your skin. This book, which is aimed at beginners and more seasoned gardeners alike, will tell you what you need; provide the basics of gardening language and technique; provide a planting plan; debunk gardening myths; and show you how to preserve your food and grow your own medicine even if there are no zombies around.

Aimed primarily at the 18-35 audience who are left cold by traditional gardening books, it will tell them the truth about growing your own food: that it is war, but a war you can, armed with the right information, win.

This was great! Humorous throughout and full of useful tips for sustenance after the zombie apocalypses other likely armageddons. Or even for pre-apocalypse food gardening... I’ll be buying the print version for sure.

Perfect for the secret prepper like me

i laughed quite hard throughout the book. I especially like that they have given examples on what to grow and what to do each month of the year so you get a grasp of how it works. it goes into depth but not too much for a beginner, and it always gives you several options for all solutions. well done

great fun

I really enjoyed reading this book and thought it was full of useful advise for anyone starting out to grow their own food. I knew much of the information already (having had an allotment for five years) but still learnt a few things about preserving food in the winter.
My only slight criticism is that it did rather assume that you could afford to buy the best plants and compost (or steal them in an apocalypse) and it was not as funny all the way through as it was at the start, but overall I would highly recommend this book (especially given the current Coronavirus outbreak).
My favourite part is where they discuss how to grow food if stuck in a block of flats. Collecting rain-water, growing potatoes in dustbins and leaning old windows against a sunny wall to make a greenhouse are things that everyone can do :-)

Very good attempt at a self-sufficiency book.
