About this listen

Hiro

Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death...the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense. Still, the more I’m around Maddox, the more I realize that beneath that surly exterior is a kind and caring man who will do anything to help.

Maddox

When another man dies, I know we have a serial killer on our hands - the same murderer who has remained elusive for a year and a half. To add to my frustration, I keep running into Hiro at crime scenes, only to hear him claim that he can talk to ghosts. The words of the dead could lead us to the serial killer and even tell us who is next, but ghosts? There’s no such thing as ghosts. Hiro is determined and charming, and no matter what I do, I can’t stop letting him get involved. He's definitely snagged my attention, but when he nearly winds up dead, I know he's getting closer to the truth - and if I don’t do something soon, he might be next.

Ghost of Lies is full of action, mystery, humor, and romance. Though more is planned for this couple, the mystery is solved and there is a happy ending.

Wonderfully suspenseful

Really enjoyed this take on a supernatural detective story , I could see it making a really good TV show. the ghost characters are just as great as the living ones. Reggie was annoying at first but I grew to love him, so I guess that was really good writing as it followed the experience of Hiro. I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say this is one I highly recommend.
The narrator was brilliant . I never got confused about characters and was completely pulled into the story.
Another reviewer mentioned the narrator's pronunciation of Nicholas, well the character's name is actually Nicolás which has an acute stress on the A, so that's why it's not pronounced the typical English/English American way, the narrator hasn't chosen to pronounce the name in a strange way, that's how Winter has written it.

Really loved this

Absolutely loved this, right up there with The Hitman series, which was my favourite Alice book.
The mystery murder was really well done, I couldn't stop listening.
It made me laugh out loud a lot and I loved the story and characters.
Loved it all.
Can't wait until the next one comes out.

A move out of my comfort zone

This is the first time I've listened to a book with a gay couple as the main characters.
Great story, it made me laugh out loud at times. I didn't solve it before the end.
I enjoyed the narration which was done very well.
I would highly recommend this book.

absolutely fantastic!

narrator: I found the narrator absolutely wonderful for this book. I felt he portrayed the voice of Maddox the best. his deep bunsky voice suites the "grumpy" guy. he did a good job of voicing the adorable Hiro. I give four stars because it lacks a little bit of energy when something major happens.

story: I can't lie I did figure out the ending almost at the start. though I do contribute this to me reading a lot of other books. story wise however it's your usual romance with someone being able to see a ghost and the other can't. Though the interactions for everything and how it's explained is SO SO, worth the buy. (five stars)

Reggie: after reading the comments myself I was worried about this guy when buying it. the comments say he's an annoying gay ghost that spoils everything. this is simply NOT the case. if you can get past his first interactions with Hiro then you'll be absolutely fine. he really grows on you after a little while even stealing the spotlight from time to time.

overall: five stars I say the over all is even though I gave the narrator a 4/5. WORTH the read!

Good story. Only minor gripes

Great story and fun characters. Lots of lovely snark. A nice romance. I enjoyed it.

Only 2 minor problems-

Alice’s obsession with the use of the words hunk, hunkalicious and sketchy! She needs a thesaurus as it’s very evident and annoying at times.

Also the narrator needs to learn how to pronounce Nicholas. I thought maybe it was the author specifying that pronunciation. Maybe it was pronounced like that in other countries I though. But I could find NO country that pronounced it like that. Greg Boudreaux was just murdering the pronunciation. Greg occasionally pronounced Hiro as Chiro as well.
