Summary

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris's, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which the heavens are replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.

an old argument convincingly won

At last. A long overdue farewell to religion, well reasoned and evidenced. A tonic for the reasoning mind.

Everyone should listen to this at least once

I can't help but think that the world would be a much better place if everyone listened to this book and took note. Brilliantly and persuasively written. One of the best audio books I've ever listened to.

A masterclass in intellectual brilliance.

Fabulous narration, incisive analysis and utterly brilliant in every way. Christopher Hitchens proves once again that he was (and will forever be) an intellectual giant. This book is a searing indictment of monotheism in all its shapes and forms and ends with the hope that mankind can eventually free itself from the self-imposed emotional crutch of organised religion. Hearing his voice, knowing he is gone is a bittersweet experience, but proof, if any where needed, that God is not required in order to achieve eternal life.

Good points and straight facts.

Apart from the fact that I knew most of the things said in the book, I think it's a good book on the subject of religion and God. good points, and straight facts.

A must read or listen.

Punctures the puffed up self important claims of the worlds religions, with his usual wit and erudition. Christopher Hitchens will be sadly missed.

Good and short.

As a non native speaker of English, I found it pretty much difficult to understand the author's accent.
The book is not well organized, the main headings and subheadings are kind of irrelevant.

overall, great book.

He really doesn't like religion

A lot of religious facts and the holes in them. requires a broad understanding of various religions and their organisations.
