Nacido en Fuendetodos (Zaragoza) el 30 de marzo de 1746, Francisco de Goya y Lucientes llegó pronto a Zaragoza para estudiar en los Escolapios y formarse con el pintor José Luzán, muy diestro en la realización de los grandes lienzos de tema religioso, tan prodigados en el ultimo barroco. Años más tarde, en 1763, Goya paso a Madrid para intervenir en un concurso convocado por la Academia de San Fernando. Fracasó y decidió hacer un viaje a Italia; después de visitar Roma, llego a Parma, donde recibió un premio de aquella Academia.
